So, what is the collective opinion on Polk Audio in general?
My entertainment budget is somewhat limited and my current Bose 201 series IVs for fronts and some even older Bose for backs has me mostly satisfied.
That said, I have heard good things about Polk Audio, but I have always been fairly impressed with the opinions here.
For this price they are a steal. Polk generally makes good quality products. I would never pay MSRP for them, since they are priced a bit high IMO, but if you can get them at a discount it's worth it.
Polk makes great speakers. Go to Newegg.com and check the reviews.
@msmetz: I think the better question there would be what is the collective opinion on bose. :P
I'm a victim of Bose. Never again.
I am a victim of newegg....

I know I did...Bose is better than a boom box I guess. They are unanimously hated on stereo-geek forums.
If you're into it you can build your own very good speakers for a fraction of the price of anything you can buy. Or scour thrift stores. That said, and said as a speaker junkie, if I had an extra $100 I'd buy these just for kicks.
I own a set of these that I bought at a prior newegg sale. These are bigger than you think and heavy. They have good sound.
These are not the greatest speakers ever made, but they are good enough for the regular person who wants decent sound out of their system. If you are a stereo nazi, these will be terrible.
@mfaughn: Dunno why, Bose makes good equipment, they're just massively overpriced.
A friend just picked these up... not quite super audio-file, but for the price they sound great. Excellent option unless you plan on spending well over $1000 on your system (I'm up to the price of a small car now :( )
Don't throw these at people, you could polk out someone's eye.
OK, I went ahead and ordered 2 pair of these, what would make a good center chan for these?
@msmetz: make sure to get the matching center I believe CS1 or 2 would be the matching choices. If you don't you could get a cave like sound due to several various factors.
@dpanther: As far as I can tell, the CS10 seems to have the matching speaker sizes. I hope I can find a deal on that speaker as well.
Polk or Klipsch in my opinion are the best speakers in the mid range market. I like different qualities about either but most people I know hate one and love the other. It is always best to try to listen first in as close of environment to you home setup as possible as only your ears know what they like best. It is very important to think about your receiver as you can have good speakers and and only get average sound with a junk receiver.
@msmetz: the speakers dont have to be the same size per say just in the same product line
Receiver I am using is a Pioneer VSX-D812
@msmetz: from polk's website http://www.polkaudio.com/downloads/manuals/home/Monitor_Manual.pdf
@dpanther: It's "per se", which I guess is Latin. Not trying to be a spelling jerk, just trying to be helpful.
OK, just got these last night, I ordered the CS1 to go with them and they sound great. These are a bit large, but they are a good step up from the set up I had and the VSX-D812 seems to have enough umpf.
They sound great for music and TV, I have yet to watch a surround sound movie, but I anticipate them being just fine.
Thank You Subby, Deals Woot and Newegg.
