Only stops 9mm...
Hmmm... What about 38s and 357s, 40s and 45s????

vote-for2vote-against

I hope that the person who shots someone carrying this at least has that neato CCW badge and case sold here last week.

vote-for1vote-against

Any volunteers to test the claim?

Now check out the "similar deals" link for a Polish armored vehicle! Similar?
Hmmmm! $44.99 vs. $13698.63, a few grams vs. a bunch of tons, I just can't decide which one to get.

vote-for4vote-against

I'm going to assume for the sake of ballistics, that a slower round like the .45 or .38 will also be stopped if it stops a 9mm (though the .45 will probably still knock you on your ass). For a .40, .357, or 10mm; I wouldn't chance it and would double up with a bullet proof pocket protector.

In the Description;
•Level II body armor protects against 9mm, as well as all those calibers protected by Level I and Level IIA

vote-for6vote-against

That's why I carry an XD-SC .40, too many bad guys with clip boards...

vote-for1vote-against

Pcitures!

Personally, I'd be worried about the 31grain 5.7 more than anything :)

vote-for3vote-against

@peaty: Hopefully our government will get off their lazy asses and do something about the clip-board problem we have going on out in the streets..

vote-for2vote-against

Approximately 3 lbs in weight? You must have some guns of your own if you're going to be using that clipboard for extended durations to time.

vote-for1vote-against

I think I'll just wait for the RPG proof attache case.

vote-for3vote-against

Something tells me that this assignment takes off sunglasses just got blown.
YYYEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH!!!!!!!!

vote-for3vote-against

Don't forget the TPS coversheet provides an additional layer.

"I just preformed a test of several handgun calibers against a Silent Partner level IIA ballistic panel.

9mm 147gr Talon --- stopped
45ACP 230gr XTP --- stopped
40SW 165gr Talon --- stopped
357Mag 125gr JHP --- stopped
10mm 200gr XTP --- passed through
10mm 180gr Gold Dot --- passed through

All of these were shot a 10ft away with Glocks, except for the 45 which was out of a 1911 and the 357 which was out of a 4" Smith."
- quote from AR15.com
I can't testify for how accurate that quote may be, but I know several officers who rely on their IIA vests.

I kinda would rather carry an Uncle Mike's Briefcase with a Level IV ballistic rifle plate and a handgun. Heavier, sure, but it has a shoulder strap, and did I mention the handgun?

vote-for3vote-against

Am I the only one who thinks that if you need body armor, a clipboard is insufficient?

vote-for2vote-against

I have a small bulletproof shield the exact size of a bullet somewhere on my body, and if you hit it, I'll be unharmed and your plan will be foiled. You'll be the laughingstock of me!

vote-for2vote-against

So I'm holding this with my hands and someone shoots at me and hits the clipboard. It doesn't bounce out of my hands because I always hold it like I'm expecting someone to shoot me in the clipboard?

Gun nutz will buy anything!

vote-for1vote-against

@xeros: The size of a bullet? That's not going to dissipate the energy across much of your body, so I really don't think you'd be "unharmed". In fact, it'd likely penetrate rather nicely, and you'd have a nice die-cut hole from your "bulletproof shield" through your skin.

Heard of a .38 special "wadcutter" round? They're generally used for practice/target shooting. They're literally a flat front cylinder, that makes a neat clean hole through the target that's easy to see and count, rather than a ripped hole you can nearly fold back and reclose. Anyway, your bullet-sized shield would function exactly like one of these after being hit.

TL;DR: uh, won't work like you'd think.

@tdurden: It's not being marketed to "gun nutz," fool. If it were, you'd see it for sale on sites like cheaperthandirt.com and luckygunner.com, not at ThinkGeek.

When you want to kill your boss, remember to bring a .45 cal, he just might have this clipboard.

vote-for1vote-against

@hobbitss: Yeah, have to agree. 9mm is teh weaksawce. I'll think about buying one when it can stand up to a .50 cal BMG round.

vote-for1vote-against

@hobbitss: Level 2 NIJ will stop 9mm .38 and .357 at up to 1400fps (so as long as it isn't .357 out of a rifle length barrel). 40 and .45 are both weaker penetrators than 9mm and are stopped by L2 easily and are therefore not listed.

Perfect for the teacher in your family.

A bullet-proof clipboard. Perfect for the nerd who strays into dangerous waters.

. . . or maybe works at a Gold's Gym in Jersey.

vote-for1vote-against

There's a "and on in the clip" joke somewhere in here.

vote-for1vote-against

@hobbitss: A 9mm is a very high velocity round whereas something like a .38 or .45 is not. I'm sure this could stop those as well. Its kind of like the m16 versus ak47 debate. The 5.56 of the M16 is more accurate and travels faster which means it essentially just punches a hole in the body (some soldier's complain about a lack of "knock-down power" whereas the larger 7.62 of an AK moves slowed but basically tears a hole through the victim.

Use a hole puncher on a piece of paper and then try to jam a pencil through the paper and you will get a rough illustrate of what I mean.

"Bulletproof" is a misnomer. There's no such thing as "bulletproof". "Bullet Resistant" would be the correct terminology.

In all seriousness though, assuming you were holding this like a regular clipboard and not having it duct taped to your midsection, you'd probably break a wrist, or both wrists, just from trying to hang on to it when/if someone where to take a shot at you. Geek with broken wrists vs bad guy with gun...who wins that? I'd personally prefer a kevlar pocket protector instead.

vote-for1vote-against

I've seen enough movies to know that a simple hip flask will protect me, who needs a clipboard...
