I would love a backlit Razer gaming keyboard, but I use a keyboard for so much typing. Guys, give one the ergo split, okay?

vote-for1vote-against

Great keyboard, I had one for 2.5 yrs until it died a week ago. Only problem is that an $80 keyboard only lasted 2.5yrs after normal use. So I can only imagine how long a refurb one will last.

@capguncowboy: You know of a place with a better price than this?

vote-for2vote-against

@carmispicer: Perhaps you should check my comment more closely. I was advising @pocketbrain that he wouldn't find a backlit ergo-split keyboard for this price.

@daviddmyers: I've had mine for coming up on 3 years (refurbed) and haven't had any problems with it. I'd say they're trustworthy enough, especially for the price.

@daviddmyers: Well it only has to last you a year for it to be the same price per year. I think that's reasonable.

Purchased one off Woot about 3 months ago, refurbished.

These ones are still prone to the issue where certain keys will randomly stop working. There was a fix, which required removing one of the screws retaining the touchpad that controls the media button, and it did REDUCE the frequency of it, but did not eliminate it completely. The problem is random, and the keys that stop working are random.

Still, it is worth the $35 simply for the backlight and the feel of the keyboard. But you should expect to have to disconnect and reconnect the USB plug periodically. For me, it happens maybe once a week or so.

If Logitech would only come out with a backlit keyboard like this that did NOT have laptop-style keys and was wired, I would get rid of this thing in an instant.

Bought it off woot couple months ago, and sold 1 week later on craigslist. It was the best looking keyboard I ever bought, but in regards to playing FPS games, it was the worst. I would of preferred playing with any low end keyboard than this junk. Save your money and buy a gaming mouse instead. If you are looking to improve your online gaming experience a gaming mouse would be the wise choice.

Got this last week, and it just came in a few days ago.

I can't be happier with the purchase. Keys are nice and I notice that my typing is much more accurate on this keyboard than a normal(fat key) keyboard.

If you game and like Blue LED's pick one up.

Stay far, far away from this. I got this keyboard and it quit after a few hours. Spend the extra few bucks and get a quality board.

vote-for1vote-against

From personal experience, avoid 'gaming' keyboards. Get a keyboard you can type on easily and comfortably (like a mechanical/buckling-spring keyboard.. noisy, but well worth it if you type a LOT).

For gaming, pick up a speedpad instead; I love my Belkin/Razer Nostromo n52te.. which cost just about the same as this, but is far more comfortable and responsive during extended play, after the usual adjustment period to a new peripheral.

I am using the exact keyboard as I type this. I love it, certainly notice its better response and don't have a single regret in my purchase.

i'm typng on one now nd i hve no prblem wit keys not workng!

For the love of god, stop advertising this keyboard!
I'm a victim of the Lycosa keyboard that was sold on Woot months ago... I hate this thing. I am never buying Razer products again because of this keyboard. The only Razer product I've owned that has worked well was their simple 3 button mouse.

These keyboards are garbage, random keys stop functioning, media keys do nothing. Bad keyboard.

This is an email I sent to a buddy on my Lycosa:

Got a Z Board, now Steel Series, MERC years ago and have never had a bit of problems. You can find them on ebay for about this price. I have never been tempted to look at another board except the back lit stealth version but that's a little pricey. I dont understand how any other keyboard is considered "a gaming keyboard" without the dedicated button layout that the merc has. Can anyone tell me what makes a keyboard a "gaming" keyboard? It takes more than illumination and macro programming in my opinion.

@claytron4000: Don't give up on Razer entirely. I just got their Vespula mouse pad and it is every bit as awesome as they say. I wish you could know how quickly and accurately I just clicked on the submit button.

vote-for1vote-against

why the razer hate. they ARE the standard of computer gaming electronics.
Had my lachesis mouse for 3 years, friends/family have 3 deathadders, a naga, and one of each of the headsets. All still going strong. Have you ever downloaded the drivers for any of their products?

I own the razer krait mouse and have had no problems with it, but I have begun to doubt razer's quality in it's lower-range builds over the past year or so. If you look at their product line, among their higher-end pieces there are often two tiers of the same basic product, one being the 'standard' (but still very pricey) edition and the other being a 'special' or 'ultimate' (and even more pricey) edition that has extra features. An example is the recent BlackWidow keyboard: http://store.razerzone.com/store/razerusa/en_US/DisplayCategoryProductListPage/categoryID.35156900

I'm not knocking Razer as a whole, but I do doubt a company's quality when it begins to market an under-performing product for a exorbitant price, like many of the peripherals made special for transformers or starcraft. On a more positive note, I am still very excited about the good work they appear to have done with the Razer Onza (though it's another one of those with two tiers of quality and price).

I've been through 3 razer lycosa's.... they are HORRIBLE no matter how cheap you can get one. It will do nothing but irritate you. If the keys actually worked for longer than a day(if that), then it would be my favorite keyboard... but they DON'T. Save yourself time and money; get a logitech.

*that being said... i love my razer death adder wireless/wired mouse.

Love Razer mice, but don't care for this keyboard. Had nothing but problems since I received mine. Tech support's suggestions never solved the random key failure problem.

Sold mine at a yard sale for $5. Never a Razer keyboard again.

vote-for1vote-against

I made the serious mistake of purchasing one of these the last time I saw them on sale. After paying, it get here in 4 days, and the number keys along the top stopped working after two hours. After spending another hour on the phone with Razer(40 minutes of which was spent on hold) to try and get it replaced or RMA'd, my call got disconnected. Emails haven't bee returned as well.

Do yourselves a favor-skip this keyboard and this company altogether. Stick with Logitch. Less of a headache, better money spent.

Bought one of these on sellout.woot.com on 5/27/11 and haven't had any of the horror story issues others have posted. I've actually really enjoyed the feel of the keyboard but that's up to anyone's personal preferences.

vote-for1vote-against

terrible keyboard i had 1 and it never worked right i suggest you stay away

vote-for1vote-against

Wasn't this just $25 a couple of days ago on the woot birthday game? Disappointing. I'd buy it for $20.

vote-for1vote-against

I HAD that keyboard for about two weeks before I took it back. When in the "WASD" cluster lighting mode, sometimes the keyboard would just reset itself, making it unresponsive for about 2 seconds. Keyboards should be reliable. I did have it plugged into a high-end KVM switch, so it might have been having power issues for all I know. Still, a keyboard should, above all else, work reliable for years. Avoid.

vote-for2vote-against

Funny, I didn't know "refurbished" meant that I would be getting a keyboard that was:
1: All Scratched up
2: Had keys on backwards
3: Had soda spilled in it
4: Had food in it (Pizza or Indian food, couldn't tell)
5: Had bits of fingernails in it

So very not impressed with my first woot purchase!

vote-for2vote-against

@sundancekid2: sounds about right, hope you learned your lesson now =(

vote-for1vote-against

Who does the warranty on this mine is junk.

vote-for1vote-against

I'm typing right now on the one I bought. Haven't had any problems yet.

vote-for1vote-against

A random key will stop working periodically throughout the day. I have to unploug, then plug back in. I'm assuming refurbished is bought as-is. Anyone try calling their customer support yet?
