Was totally about to buy this until i realized it's display port only...

This monitor is cheap for a reason, it only has a DisplayPort connection. No VGA, DVI, or HDMI. And from the reviews the adapter is horrendously expensive.

a number of systems I have, or friends have, have display port.

Also, I've seen DVI-D to HDMI adapters cheap... wouldn't DVI-D to DP be similar?

Regardless..... is it a good screen?

@mwinkykitty: $29 is expensive?? Display port converted to HDMI for $29 (and it is HP brand) - search for HP part number BP937AA . . . it is actually cheaper from HP than it is on Amazon. I wouldn't say it is a great monitor for gaming (after reading the specs), but for general purpose use it is at a hard to beat price, even considering adding $30 for an adapter.

@souka: specs wise, it seems decent for most use. not the best for games, but most purposes are fine. and from my understanding, display port is kinda obnoxious if you don't have a display port out.

Sober up and read the comments over at Newegg before even thinking about this one. Not a great monitor by any stretch of the imagination!

HDMI to DisplayPort cable $6 @ Amazon http://www.amazon.com/High-Quality-Black-DisplayPort-Cable/dp/B002CSRF9M problem solved, right? I have a laptop with VGA and DisplayPort out, used one of these cables to hook up to the TV and it worked just fine.

I have one of these and it makes a great secondary monitor. My Radeon HD graphics card has a Display port connection, just plugged it in and turned it on. Windows 7 automatically extends my desktop to the secondary display. Again not very good for games or video but great for normal programs.

@dvaamco: YOU are the one that needs to sober up and READ the comments. Most negatives are due to it only being display port. And, the other negatives are small things like a slow refresh rate or lackluster built-in adjustments. So? $80 for a monitor this size and resolution, anyone who thinks its crap seriously needs to get real.

@faaaaq: So, aside from lack of connectivity, poor refresh rate, poor contrast ratio, no vesa mount, "lackluster built-in adjustments", and the cables hanging out the side (they conveniently don't show that in the picture) it's super-duper for a 21.5" monitor !!

Are there any monitors that are this thin, with an hdmi or dvi input under $250?

vote-for1vote-against

I'm not interested, really, but I was curious to read the user reviews. I came across this one from New Egg, just FYI. No idea if it's true or not. I reiterate, this is not my review and I have no idea of it's validity.:

I've only found 1 adapter that can accept DVI input and then output to DisplayPort and it costs much more than the monitor. Most(99.99%) DisplayPort to DVI adapters or cables you find are unidirectional and only work going from a computer's DisplayPort output to a monitor's DVI input. They will not work the other way around. IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A PC WITH A DISPLAYPORT OUTPUT, THEN DO NOT BUY THIS MONITOR!

And, from the Amazon Link Above, a user review:

HDMI to DisplayPort doesn't work,
While the description states 2-way connectivity, this is false in my case. I am trying to connect an HP laptop with HDMI out to the DisplayPort of my Dell monitor, as the HDMI port was being utilized by my DVR. I bought this cable to save me from buying 2 more HDMI cables and a switch, but this cable cannot do that. Hopefully this will save someone the same frustration and time. It would be best if they updated the description to make this design flaw clear.

Seems like you didn't understand how the signal conversion is accomplished. DisplayPort to HDMI by cable will work; going the other way needs some equipment. You shouldn't rate a product low just because you thought it could be used for a purpose that was never promised.
