I suffer from Ugly Plate Syndrome, but unfortunately my husband loves our plates and they have sentimental value to him (they were his fathers before he passed). I've decided that is a battle I don't want to win. :-)

@jwwurman: Thanks, it's really nice looking, but I already ordered two sets of the black scroll dinnerware. For eight place settings it was fifty-two dollars and change (total). The Target set is $46 for a four place setting, plus sales tax.

@lisaviolet: Can I recommend the b&w set below from Target? I'm not in any way part of the company, but I DO love a good deal and I also suffered from Horrid Plates Syndrome for a while in my marriage. And then the everyday set we picked, which seemed classic and easy to find, was discontinued by Williams-Sonoma. So now, after being married 15 years, we have three soup bowls, 2 dessert plates, and ALL the chargers from that set, and cannot replenish. Target provided a great solution -- I waited for a sale on their dinnerware, and bought THREE sets of 8 so I can feed a lot of people and/or replace pieces as we go. [One box lives in perpetual "backup" mode in the basement until we need to harvest something from it.]

Anyway, here's the set from Target we have, and we really like it; surprisingly, it's held up even better than the W-S set did, anyway! :) Good luck!

Our kitchen is white, our appliances are black. Our current dinnerware I got at a yard sale over fifteen years ago for ten bucks, heavy grey plates. They are badly chipped. DH came in the room, I say "look at these"...he does..."niiiiice".

In for two with the understanding when they get here, all the grey stuff goes out. Not a problem.
