Ordered, mixed site reviews lately on PGrabber, hopefully this will pan out, it's a good deal!

Any advice on exactly which DDR2 2GB Ram is compatible with this laptop? Cheaply expanded to 3 or 4 GB this is a pretty good deal

@nfauteux: Sounded too good to be true. Just checked at WalMart and it's showing $398.

Company canceled my order. LAME!

Unless Celeron processors have gotten any better in the last year or two, I would avoid this. Spend the extra $50 or 100 somewhere else and get a decent CPU.

@rickfurman: I'm typing up this reply on the deal that nfauteux posted. It was, indeed, 300 dollars for me(minus the 8.75% sales tax).

@bluorchids: I wish I could get to the WalMart one for $300. The link in nfauteux's comment goes to the description only for me. When I search at WalMart for the model# it shows a cost of $398 with no options checked (base price). I am using this link. Do you have a better one? Thanks http://www.walmart.com/ip/eMachines-eME725-4520-15.6-Black-Notebook/14018204#rr

Weird . . . my earlier comment on this product (which was still listed the day after I posted it) isn't there any more. So I guess this means that I DON'T need to correct my earlier statement saying that shipping is free even to Alaska. Just got an email today asking for authorization for an additional $36. So I'm canceling the order, and deleting my bookmark for GearXS.

The Saga Continues . . . .

In the isn't-this-a-small-world department, GearXS apparently follows the comments on their deals here at Deals.Woot, saw my post above, reversed what I was told earlier, and offered to ship it for free via USPS Parcel Post. That's kinda slow to Alaska, so I asked about me agreeing to pay the extra between USPS Parcel Post and Priority. They agreed to that, and when I asked about whether a webcam was included, they confirmed that this model didn't include one (which was what I expected), but offered to include a basic Logitech external in the order for $7. So if it works okay on arrival, I guess I won't be deleting their bookmark after all . . . . :-)

The Compaq arrived (faster than expected) and has worked fine so far. After double-checking the model# of the $7 webcam, found that this is about 1/3 of Amazon price or half the lowest Amazon-reseller price. This pleases me . . . .
