@zeke7: No -- it's in the design. The purple coloring on the metal (looks like enameling?) cheapens the appearance of an already poor design. If you're birthday shopping for your 12 year old sister -- I bet she'd love this. The center stone is nice, but I find the overall design to be quite juvenile.

I'm not sure tacky is the word I'd use, but the two shades of purple clash and the painted petals studded with haphazardly-placed crystals is just ugly. There's the word I'm looking for, ugly.

I would think that the girl that would like this would be likely to lose it while playing with her Barbies.

@xdante: I was wondering about the "enamel". I am actually shopping for my fiancee and her favorite color is purple... but after I looked at it and realized how large it was and that that lighter shade of purple was not more stones I backed away.

@zeke7: Congrats! Keep an eye out for something in a genuine amethyst or tanzanite. Tanzanite does have a tendency to run in bluer shades, but it does come in lovely pale lavenders.

The simplest design is usually the best one!

@zeke7: It's quite nice! The design is very modern and has nice clean lines. You probably can't go wrong there, unless she is a very vintagey, antique-y kind of woman, then you might want to look for something a bit more Edwardian. Nice choice!
