"$9.99 shipping (While supplies last)"

@jmart251: Exactly, and since the New products they sell have free shipping, that reduces the effective discount to 12.5% and 15% for the two models

I would REALLY for love a Roku 2 XS to show up here for $60. $75+10 shipping is still a lot for that. Give me an extra $15 off and then we have a great deal.

can a roku replace directv? Im kinda confused as to what the ideal application for this is. Im a big sports fan and so can I watch my local teams on this?

What happened to Roku 2 XS for $49.99??

vote-for10vote-against

A brand new Roku 2 XD is $78.00 on Amazon with free Super Saver Shipping. For the extra $8, the new one is a better deal.

@alderuen: No. A Roku can't receive satellite, cable, or broadcast signals. They are designed for streaming media like Netflix, Hulu+, and Amazon streaming. There are literally hundreds of other "channels" available. Go to www.roku.com for more info. Or, do some searches on the Ask The Community side. There are numerous questions there with many detailed answers.

@alderuen: This cannot really replace direct TV if you are a sports fan. There is an MLB channel and stuff, but for NFL and current games, not sure this is what you are wanting.
Roku is basically for watching Netflix and Hulu and other internet media, it has TONS of channels for movies and stuff.

But if you want a Sports pack, DirectTv might still be your best bet.

@geredeth: this is sort of what I figured. Ive got the basic dtv setup pretty much as it covers my teams. Back when I was in school Id just stream everything - which brought me to wondering if this had the capabilities to do something like that for me.

Too late to add to my comment above. A brand new Roku 2 XS is $95.00 on Amazon with free Super Saver Shipping. For the extra $10, again a better deal than this.

Raspberry Pi running Raspbmc (openelec) is a much better deal. For $45 you can get a raspberry pi which is a cigarette box sized computer. If your HDMI TV is newer then your TV remote will even work to drive the media-center... which will stream video from the internet or your PC in the other room that you should have running Couch Potato, Sickbeard and SABNZB. There, I've just given you your project for the morning ;)

It only seems like a lot but it all works so well in concert with each other you'll wonder why people still watch things on regular broadcast TV.

Beware buying refurbished Roku's! If they stop working properly Roku will NOT honor any warranty and give you the run-around. I speak from experience.

I bought a Roku refurb from Woot around December of last year. It works great! I recommend downloading the Roku remote apps for your smartphone (Android & iPhone). I find it works better than the real thing.

@terminater4050: New and refurbished Roku units purchased directly from Roku have the same warranty. I just confirmed this with Roku Live Chat:

Please see here for more information regarding the warranty.

vote-for1vote-against

@thefenst: I'm not disputing the fact they have a warranty, I am alerting other potential buyers that the last Roku I bought, which was through Woot as well, ceased to function properly. Roku support kept giving me a script when ever I would call. After the 5th call, I gave up. Just my .02, perhaps other people will have better luck!

@terminater4050: In addition to a phone number for Roku support (888-600-7658), they also offer support via Live Chat and email. All ways to contact them are listed on this page.

They also encourage anyone with feedback regarding their support experience (positive or negative) to contact them at customer.advocate [at] roku.com.

Worth mentioning.
Amazon has started taxing California, so thats an extra 9% (appx)

But I am sure other companies have that charge too, so it's a wash.
It matters on the big dollar stuff. $80 is big dollar to me

If you have Dish network you can get one of these for free since they dropped a few channels, they are sending these exact ones out if you call them.
