Hmm, sounds like a good Christmas present to my mom from my kiddos...
Got one of these (not shutterflys but same kind of thing..) for my dad. Documented our Father son projects of building old cars and showed the progression of his 1955 we restored from start to finish.. he really loved it.. great to show a progression event collection of pictures..
WE DO A PHOTOBOOK EVERY YEAR OF OUR TRAVEL/KID ADVENTURES. THEY ARE GREAT FOR DOCUMENTING THINGS WHILE THE KIDS ARE YOUNG SINCE I STINK AT SCRAPBOOKING! WE USUALLY GET EXTRAS FOR THE GRANDS FOR CHRISTMAS GIFTS... THEY LOVE THEM! GREAT DEAL... THANKS!
I do lots of photobooks. They are great keepsakes and fun gifts. I've used Shutterfly a few times and found them to be fine. But 12x12 is a very odd size. It doesn't coordinate well with the shape of most photos. For pages where you are going to put several photos, the page shape isn't important. But if you want to do some full page shots, which I always do, you are going to have to crop about 1/3rd of your photo to fit the square format.
I just got an 8x8 photo book from them with glossy hard cover and was impressed with the quality of the printing/photo reproduction. The trimming was a little off though. There was some "bleed" from other pages or something at the tops of some of the pages. (qualifications: I'm a photographer/designer)
