Stargate (Blu-ray) (Widescreen) for $5
The story commences in Giza, Egypt, circa 1928, where an archaeological expedition unearths an ancient ring with cryptic hieroglyphs. The film then moves to the present day, where Egyptologist Daniel Jackson is busily trying to convince a group of skeptics that the pyramids were not built by man, but by an extraterrestrial force. After the lecture, a military man approaches him and offers him a job translating the said ring; its inscriptions actually constitute a map to a massive stargate (or interstellar portal). The army sends over resident crackpot colonel Jack O'Neill to travel through the stargate and see what's on the other side; Jackson accompanies him, and the two men turn up in a desert planet on the other side of the universe, with three moons in its sky. The world in question is ruled by Ra, a hermaphroditic Egyptian sun god, who oppresses hordes of slave workers. Jackson and O'Neill then join forces to help the said workers revolt against their oppressor
In store as well.
Ra was hermaphroditic? I must have missed that scene.
@rprebel: It must be in the extended edition. :\
showing in backorder now .
Backordered online because of the Woot rush :) (You can still order it today at this price and you will get it "in 2 to 4 weeks") or get off your butt and go to the store! Either way, this is a great deal and certainly a must buy unless you own this exact version already!
Has anybody watched the movie recently? Does it still hold up? I liked it when I first saw it and generally liked the first TV series, just wondering if time has been kind to the original Stargate.
how can time be kind to a classic...
Looks like a better deal at Amazon...Free Shipping...I bought this from target and shipping is 2.50 plus tax.
I don't know if they have changed it for this blu-ray version, but on a blu-ray copy Wal-mart used to sell several months back there was a lot of complaints that the picture was grainy and was not worth getting as a blu-ray. FWIW.
@azrhei: To the best of my knowledge, this is in fact the lesser quality version. There is a 15th Anniversary edition that gets much better reviews.
@greg0294: 5% off and free shipping at Target with a Target credit or debit card...I recommend the debit card because it debits it right out of your account and you don't have to worry about interest or forgetting to make a payment.
