If you like receiving lots of junk mail because you need something to start fires in your fireplace, rolling papers, or a bunch of small catalogs to prop up a short table leg. This is the place to order from. If you don't like being inundated with junk mail, shop elsewhere.

@xavoc: Per their privacy policy, they "may use the personal information we collect through BUDK.com", including when orders are being placed, to "to contact you with special offers and other information we believe will be of interest to you" and also to "to improve our marketing and promotional efforts." This is standard when all orders are placed on their site. If you or anyone else is receiving their catalog that does not want it, I am sure you can contact them at webcs@budk.com or at 1-800-543-5061 and they will take you off the mailing list.

How does this company make money? I was getting multiple catalogs a week from them for months. They also sold my info to an affiliate company too as I started getting a competitor's catalogs too.

vote-for9vote-against

@fenriq: Are you sure it's a competitor?

I also got a different catalog (Kennesaw Cutlery). But when I looked in the front cover of both catalogs, I saw that the same guy is president of both companies.

@thefenst: It would be one thing if I was just signed up for offers via e-mail. Or, you know if they asked me if I wanted to receive 3 catalogs per month from them and affiliates perhaps when I checked out.

I'm simply letting folks know that when they order from this company that BUDK automatically start sending you junkmail catalogs.

vote-for11vote-against

@thefenst: They SAY that... However after calling them roughly a month ago I still get their junk mail.

vote-for7vote-against

@superninja: You could be right. And it's pretty sneaky to be one's own competitor.

Never order a sword from a site that uses the term "blood groove". Nuff said.

FYI: I deleted some posts that looked like they were going to take the discussion WAY off topic.

vote-for4vote-against

@xavoc: It's not unusual for companies who ship paper catalogs to automatically add customers to their mailing lists after they order. It may not be ideal for everyone, but it's not exactly shady either.

I'm still fairly baffled by peoples complaints against BUDK... it pops up pretty much everytime they post a deal and it's always either "they didn't give us our free throwing knives that were obviously a mistake" or "they send me a catalog they told me in writing that they would send before I ever ordered from them but I didn't read it and am mad that I got a good deal from them and now have to throw away a catalog"

If people want to post some legitimate complaints that would be awesome but whining about things you agreed to in writing when you ordered from them isn't exactly a legitimate complaint... Anyone want to chime in that's asked to have their catalog canceled and is still getting it 8-12 weeks later (the standard length of time for any magazine or subscription to be canceled)?

A lot of their stuff is total crap by the way so be careful what you order but as long as you've checked reviews before ordering they do offer great stuff as well just like anybody else.

vote-for3vote-against

@xavoc: Well, what did you think of the quality of the product that you ordered? Also, since you used them, how was their customer service?

vote-for4vote-against

@ikisat: I understand what you're saying.

However, I would have never ordered anything from them to start with. But they seem to "accidentally" post free knives quite a bit. And who doesn't like free stuff? I LOVE free stuff! But then to say "oops sorry about the free knives accident" & then take all my info and send me emails, mail, and sell my info is very unprofessional; I would even argue unethical.

That IS A legitimate complaint & scam.

vote-for1vote-against

@kevskoolkars: That's legitimate, I ordered the free throwing knives as well. They sent me e-mails and catalogs, I called and canceled the catalogs and used the unsubcribe link in the e-mail and both stopped within 8 weeks. Now I don't get their catalogs any more often than I get cabelas or anybody else who I've never even given my information to directly.

@veejayxl: Quality varies wildly depending upon what you purchase. They shipped somewhat quickly, and my order arrived intact.

vote-for0vote-against

@thefenst: They also allow me to opt in/out of the e-mail flyers. However one can't opt out of the catalog at purchase. So if you order anything, you WILL get a catalog. Then you have to take your time to call them and have yourself removed.

They make it rather easy to opt out of the e-mail part, but the catalog part is cumbersome.

Bought a Finnish gas mask from a sponsored deal a few months back (not from this particular retailer), and I have received at least 4 different military surplus adverts by mail per week... sounds like a huge waste of postage on their part.

Interesting. Someone is downvoting anything I post here. Including when I posted that quality varies wildly depending upon what you're purchasing, and about them shipping fairly quickly. LOL

@chrisandethan: Maybe they're hoping you'll buy the Vinyl Baconized SS Uniform to match it?
