What?!? Is it made of plutonium?!?!?!

vote-for6vote-against

Err. $10.99 for half a fluid ounce? I don't know....

vote-for2vote-against

@jdougan273: No but it is made from Rare Earth Elements such as Europium to achieve the super bright glow.

When i was a kid my brothers had some glow in the dark paint. They secretly painted things in my bedroom with it. I freaked out when I shut the light off. Still recovering from it. But this is way too pricey for a prank.

@mtrlgrl: Nah -- everyone should have at least $11 in their rainy day prank fund! :-D

Wonder what would happen if you combined it with the uranium ore from earlier....

I would recommend reading this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radium_Girls but I'm sure this isn't that.

First off, how is this a deal? $10.99 is the normal price for this stuff.

I've actually used this stuff for Halloween and it's OK. Not great, OK. Certainly its better then the typical glow in the dark stuff you see around, but I was hoping when I bought this the project would POP and truthfully, it was just OK. For $10, it's worth keeping around for fun projects and it lasts for years. I bought my original stuff 2 Halloween's ago and I still have some left - used it for bat eyes (no animals were harmed in this project).

If you really want to get serious, you need to get the glow in the dark particles and mix it into other media.

Pretty sure James Cameron used a few truckloads of this stuff in Avatar. No wonder the movie was so expensive to make.

I wish they'd comment on the durability. It's solvent based, but how long will it last with repeated / long-term exposure to UV? Would make for slick car ornamentation what with it being able to glow > overnight.

Got an annoying neighbor that keeps you up every night? Buy a gallon and paint his ceiling. Then I think he will understand where you are coming from.

vote-for1vote-against

@amich45: At $2800 for a gallon of the stuff, it might be cheaper to hire a local meth addict to act as a hitman. :-D

vote-for1vote-against

@brossow: the most expensive one is less than $500/gallon i'm pretty sure you wouldnt buy 256 of the 1/2 Fl. oz. though i'm sure you could still get a meth addict to do a hit for less than that

vote-for1vote-against

@pufferfishy: It says "long", which is equal to 24+ hours. Not really that long in my books.

Also, I would agree in saying that this is not much of a deal.

@kjrehberg: That was because they were using Radium, a radioactive material, to achieve a glow. And catbertthegreat is right about it being made up of europium, which is a lanthanoid, and is not radioactive.

If you want 4 oz of glow in the dark paint United Nuclear sells basically the same product for $10.00. http://unitednuclear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=28_45&products_id=384 If you're interested, you can also get the powder form of the material to make your own paints or do whatever you want with them. I actually have both the blue and green powders and I'd have to say they are pretty cool. However I haven't tried to use it to make any paints yet.

@gnarf: Didn't bother looking at the site -- just did the quick math in my head based on the price listed here. But you're right -- probably not hard to find a meth addict to do the job for under $500. Hell, just give 'em a few boxes of Sudafed and you can get anything you want. :-D

vote-for1vote-against

is this the stuff from the Black Eyed Peas "I got a feeling" video? :D

vote-for1vote-against

Wow! Doesn't seem much of a deal. :(

Why not get it in a convenient spray can instead? http://www.amazon.com/Krylon-Glowz-Aerosol-Spray-Ounces/dp/B0029JKSH0/

wish it was a bit cheaper, and 1/2 fl oz that's hardly anything. plus it was $10.99 + $4.65 s/h so $15 bucks a 1/2 oz almost a deal for me if it was tad bit cheaper or free shipping.

I really wanted to splash my lawn so I can paint myself blue and prance around naked, acting like i was a na'vi
