I have a Pentax K20D (was the flagship about 2 models ago) which I absolutely love, but I wouldn't spend this much just to upgrade. I'm sure it's a great camera though.
The worst part about Pentax is the glass is hideously expensive. They're really aren't any "cheap prosumer" versions of any of the prime lenses. You can get old 1970's-1980's lenses for cheap, and they still work, but you give up auto-focus and sometimes even auto-exposure. I'm looking to buy a decent 35mm prime right now (roughly equivalent to a standard 50mm lens on an old film camera) and they go for $400+ unless you really go to a slow f-stop range. Yeouch.
@tsfisch: Be happy then you're not looking to Canon or Nikon for those same focal lengths, because the I.S. adds to the cost of those lenses too.
@tsfisch: If you stick with Pentax's 50mm f1.4 prime (and incredibly fast lens), yes, you will be paying $400+. What do you consider a slow f-stop range?
You can get a Tamron 24mm f2.5 prime for far less than $100. You seemed to realize you have to spend money to get the best body; you need to expect to pay money to purchase a great lens too.
@aarond12: Is the lens you're referring to auto-focus? If so, could you give me a link to it? I don't see it in the lens database at PentaxForums.com...
As for what I'd consider "fast", f2.4 would probably be about as tight as I'd go and still consider it a "fast" prime...
Thanks for the reply.
@tsfisch: Pentax makes a DA-L 35mm f 2.4 for less than $200, autofocus, but not aperture ring (most people do not need to manually change the f-stop anyway). Check Adorama, B&H, even Amazon lists this lens. For the price, it's a nice lens.
