Contrast ratio of 1000:1 Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't that really awful?

vote-for6vote-against

@wootando: its not great. but its par for the course. that is the static contrast ratio. a lot of lcd panel makers list the 'dynamic' contrast ratio with ridiculous ratios like 30,000:1. all that means is that when its a dark scene the entire panel will dim, and when its a bright scene the entire panel will light up. it does not represent the actual contrast ratio for any one scene though.

for example, say a dark scene may show a contrast ratio of 1 unit all the way to 1000 units, whereas a bright scene will cover from 4000-5000 units of contrast. so they could say it has a 5000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, but really its only 1,000 at any given time.

most computer monitors do not have dynamic contras ratios since the constant dimming and brightening of the screen would just be annoying while working.

Does it have a glossy or matte screen.

really looking to get a new widescreen monitor... is this a good deal though? I really just want one that will be good for having multiple windows open (multiple Excel, Firefox windows, etc.)

don't need it for gaming.

25" is also available on moofi.

I've had a 23" which suffered from a short. When it worked, it was fine. I'm currently using a 25" famous maker, which seems to work well.

@ducttape36: That is the clearest explanation of dynamic contrast ratio I've ever heard given. Thank you for making it much easier to understand why some of the buzz words surrounding monitors seem so ludicrous!

@malevolentdragon: You also have to be careful about the "actual" numbers. That ratio is merely the brightest bright divided by the darkest dark. If the monitor is bright enough, too bright, or annoyingly blinding...but still has a horrible black point? It still sucks even though it will have a "great" contrast ratio. Now version 2 of said monitor comes out. They didn't improve the black point...but they turned the lamp up. BANG Higher contrast ratio but the monitor STILL sucks. (And in fact, may suck even worse.)

"Don't look at contrast ratios when shopping for monitors." <-- That should be a law.

I picked one of these up to use with my PS3. No dead pixels, looks great!

If I ordered today anyone know when I should receive it?

The speakers suck (as expected) but I've got 4 of these...the picture is really very good.

@shanvold: I ordered mine on a Sunday and I received it on the following Thursday (8 business days). I didn't find out it had shipped until a day or two after it actually did though.

I need a monitor that can be rotated so I can study the data on long spreadsheets. Anyone know if the screen can be rotated?

vote-for1vote-against

@shanvold: I Ordered mine on Thursday Oct 28th, and the tracking number says that it is on the truck for delivery today. So if it gets here that would be 8 days.

@rockum: I can let you know in a few hours when it gets here

Mine just came in the mail. It looks great! I am highly pleased with how the monitor looks on the outside and its picture quality. I was expecting the speakers to be worthless according to the reviews, and I am actually half way impressed. They have clear sound and no distortion at full volume. Obviously any standard speaker system will out perform it, but they are the best speakers I have heard come out of a monitor.

As far as rotating the screen goes. It cannot be done with the current set up. You could always pull the stand off and wall mount it vertically.

My only possible complaint so far is that there is the sticker all the way across the top of the bezel that looks like its going to leave glue goo all over when I try to take it off. I am going to try and heat it up with a blow dryer first.

@halfazilla86: I am in total agreement. I bought mine last time it was on moofi and recieved it 5-6 days after it sold out. The montior is great, bigger than I thought and the speakers actually are decent for a small room with music/hulu/youtube. I am tempted to buy another one.

Is there a big difference in using this or an LCD TV?
