Don't be fooled by the size. The tennis ball gives the illusion the the potato cannon is way bigger than it really is. The potato cannon itself is at best 24 inches long. The hole for the potato is 1.5 inches in diameter. The tennis ball attachment is about 8 inches long. The company who sells this does have a potato cannon they say will go a quarter mile, but it's not this one.

My brothers and I made some of these, (most of the parts are available at HomeD) for not much less, and one of them will shoot an "air potato" that sounds AWESOMELY. (Air potato is just firing the propellant.) For you "parts" guys, the twist spark igniter, is a Coleman lantern lighter unit. The rest is ABS tubing from the plumbing department of HomeD.

Yes, ABS tubing WILL work. PVC will SHATTER when it fails. ABS will just have a minor blow-out.

They WILL be FUN to shoot.

Not sure where legality lies around here in Indiana but I do know my brother-in-law and his friends spent a night in jail when they got pulled over driving around with one while in high school, so just be forewarned. Be smart about it. I had one forever and never had any problems with it.

@justinlb56: It's also illegal to ship alcohol in many states, but there's wine.woot. If it's illegal where you live, don't buy it.

@redcap013: Hair spray,wd-40, or my favorite, Brut 33.
Starter fluid can get a little scary.

@justinlb56: that code is not listed on the official site:

don't know if it was moved of not displayed for some reason, but it may have been deleted.

Another site did have some text but I cannot validate the date:

These are a ton of fun to play with, but i think it's more fun to build them yourself. Just my $.02

How does the propelent work for this? Is it costly?

The best propellant we've found for ours is Aqua Net Hairspray. Cheap and works GREAT!

Potato guns are a FELONY to even possess in California. Very irresponsible of woot.
Combustion spud guns are not to be manufactured or possessed in the state of California pursuant to Penal Code section 12303
