@ericpost: How did you get a Costco Black Friday ad?
Costco will also have a 3tb black Friday deal on a hard drive for $100
I own 2 of these. They get hot. One died. I replaced it with a caviar green. Strangely enough, the HDD are refurbished WD Caviar Blacks 7200rpm 64mb which is why they have only 1 yr replacement. Mine may have been different so do your research on whats in these things.
I bought this same HDD about a year ago and a few months ago it died. Most of the reviews seem positive but I haven't had the best luck with Western Digital as both my external and internal WD's have died.
Have this for a couple years and it's been solid as well. I only wish it were vertically oriented for a smaller footprint.
I have used this model for about 2 years. It has been solid, and it has been problem free. The internal drive is just a WD Green series drive. I'm sure when I replace this USB 2.0 model with a USB 3.0 one, I will just throw this hard drive in my media server.
An important thing to keep in mind is that this is a USB 2.0 drive, so if you plan on accessing large files often, I would avoid this and opt for a USB 3.0 drive (if your computer can support it). If you are simply looking for a way to keep your computer backed up however, I see no point in using USB 3.0 over USB 2.0.
Another point I'd like to make is about the WD and well.. Most of the hard drive companies backup tools. They are all garbage. The WD backup tool does not offer enough flexibility, and seems to be pretty buggy. I recommend to anyone who chooses to use this drive as a backup to use Cobian Backup. It is one of the best backup tools I have ever used.
I agree with the first post, I've also been using this drive for the past 1.5 years without problems. Unfortunately, I also paid the same price. Hopefully supplies will get back to normal soon so I can swap everything with a 3 TB.
Best Buy will have a 3tb for $99 as a Black Friday sale
I've been using one of these drives for the last 2 years as a backup. It's been solid, no issues.
