Does this come with an aluminum hat and metal lined windows?
I always thought the idea of these things was great, and $13 is significantly less then the $80 asked at thinkgeek, so in for 1.
Here's hoping that it's of at least decent quality, I'll put up my thoughts whenever it comes in (between the 7th & 21st [yay economy shipping])
such a huge scam... really does anyone believe a credit card company would make cards that need a metal wallet to keep them secure??? news flash credit card fraud costs the bank way more than yourself... the RFID cards you have to be with in MILOMETERS of the card to read it... who ever made this metal wallet should be ashamed they are the thieves here taking full advantage of uneducated people... sad really...
$13, why not :]
@cwazy: There is some literature on the matter. For example, take a look at [1]. For around $100 you can read a card at a distance of about 1/4 meter. This is easily done by bumping into someone. With some software, and a merchant account, you can charge their card. Many people do not go through their credit card statement with a fine tooth comb, and a small charge of around $5-10 will likely go unnoticed. This is not to say no one reads through their statement, but the attack vector is significantly more feasible than you make it out to be.
I got one when I was on yugster and I love it. Sure, you may not need a stainless steel wallet to block out RFID stuff, but this beautifully soft, woven stainless steel is incredibly durable. Craftsmanship isn't amazing ( the stitching is a little off), but for $13 you can have a wallet that lasts.
And you can even decorate it with magnets :)
So, it came in the mail Thursday, and I've been using it ever since. It's a bit big for a standard billfold, but not outlandishly large. The metal is quite smooth, but marks/creases will show up. The card holders seem a bit tight, but I was able to fit the cards I need in, so no worries there (plus it forces me to keep my wallet free of clutter) All in all, a rather good buy for $13.
