It looks like a stroller. Wouldn't it be fun to take your watermelon for a ride in your neighborhood?
+1 vote for the sheer absurdity of it all.
@mtrlgrl: use #2 - air-conditioned baby stroller for these globally warmed times we live in?
go run the page through google translate if you need a laugh.
@jksherman: lol, good call! random gibberish has never been quite so entertaining!

'hot and cold storage'??
Because nothing says 'refreshing' like a slice of piping hot watermelon...
This probably means it's a peltier junction device, and worth perhaps a third of the asking price here. Chalk it up to 'Japanese Culture'.
Personally, I cool my watermelons the traditional way: by getting a cat to roll my watermelons into a lake, and retrieve them only when the watermelon is at optimum temperature.

This technology will only put watermelon cats out of work.
This is why Asian economies thrive while ours falters. They produce absurd products that enable laziness and we buy them. I guarantee you no one in Japan is walking around with a portable watermelon cooler.
Can you see that I am serious?
Out of my way, all of you! This is no place for loafers!
Join me or die! Can you do any less?
I'll stick with my watermelon cat too.
"this country has a ton of problems, and we come up with a product like this??? "
YOU have to be kidding... you didn't look at the website and realize it was in Japanese? You're right.. this country has a ton of problems... starting with our education system and how ignorant people have become.
NOW... $231.00 for a watermelon cooler? I'll pass. I have my Thermos roller and a bag of ice.
Chrome translates the product description as follows:

LOL
The Google translation says: "This product is out of order forms" so I translate that to mean it is out of stock. I'm so dissapointed, I wanted a pair. I'm so jealous of those folks that beat me to it.
I love it. Only in Japan would someone come up with this novelty. Let's all give thumbs up to our asian ally. Yes, it may be the dumbest invention of the 21 century, but if you had the extra money, you would buy it. I know I would. Domo arigato!
If it uses a peltier cooler, as seems likely, you'd have to start chilling your watermelon the night before. Those little peltier coolers can only manage around 175 BTU/hour. I.e. it can lower a 17.5 lb watermelon by 10 degrees F in one hour, assuming perfect insulation. So it might take a 70 degree F watermelon down to ice-cold in about 4 hours. Of course, insulation isn't going to be anywhere near perfect, and the heat exchange across bad insulation will increase by the square of the temperature difference, so it'll follow an asymptotic curve down to some temperature difference at which the loss is equal to 175 BTU/hour. Hopefully that asymptote is somewhere near 35 degrees F.
@cellardweller3: So how is the weather in Japan? I can see with the space problem a watermellon fridge would be a friviolous expendature.
@bloodystinktube: Yes, but what if their is a zombie apocalypse? Is it zombie proof?
@onionbob: And cats get paid in watermelon too http://wendyusuallywanders.wordpress.com/2009/06/19/summer-noms/
you can put a watermelon in a rolling cooler with ice
where am i taking my watermelon to that it needs wheels and what if my watermelon is too big for the container do i cut it in 1/2 and have a 1/2 chilled melon
It a car care web site, did anyone notice? So how does a watermelon integrate into car culture? Besides the fact that the thing 'support so cool cigar socket'...
@gjbloom: Thank you Mr Science...
It's possible it has more than one Junction for cooling power. There's some fairly efficient little mini-coolers out there.
Why can't we just build a watermelon with legs?
Toy Story meets Veggie Tales. Do Not Want, even in a B.O.C.
i never knew this was a problem i was having until today.
but now it is all so clear....
If you buy this I hope you die in a horrible car accident...
this is ridiculous. Simply ridiculous.
Well, you have to understand one thing..... it might be, just might be practical for them, because a watermelon may cost us $1.49 in the US. ive seen water melons that were 3,000 YEN in japan. that is almost 30 USD. its obvious that the japanese people adores their precious watermelon. I havent even mentioned about their cantaloupe like MELON that cost up to 100 USD. I would personally buy this, if i had 10 of those 100$ melons. Make the 15 dollar piece of melon worth every bite ^_^
But does it blend?
i am crying.
Will it keep my Fried Chicken cool too?
Can this be used as an air conditioned infant stroller?
@danieldkuntz: I am disrespectful to dirt!
Man and it cant even hold the two watermelons on that hot lady over there!
The big question is...will it hold a 12-pack for those days when a watermelon just won't quench your thirst?
And...whatever happened to those LONG watermelons from my childhood? All I see these days are round ball-like watermelons...
@takethemeatbridge: He will banish dirt to the land of wind and ghosts!
This was made for bringing severed heads to Thailand for "further processing".
Wow! I didn't even realize how badly I need one of these!
Sure it may keep your watermelon cold, but can it stop a giant wooden mallet?
@heymo: ditto from me. Who comes up with this stuff and then who thinks it is a good idea to sell it??
