These things are pretty awesome. The alarm is quite loud, and it doesn't take much water at all to set them off.

However I have found that they make lousy fish tank decorations due to the sound being quite bothersome to the fish.

Just had a need for this exact product yesterday while at work. I didn't catch a leak from a faulty valve in the water main until the carpet in my office was soaking wet. Things break around here all the time so this should come in handy during the next water-related catastrophe. In for 2!

I actually have need for at least one of these, but have put off over and over purchasing one. Living in an area with basements and sewer lines very close to the (quite high in the ground) water table, there is the occasional excess water buildup on the floor of the basement. Just put a good sump pump in, but didn't know I needed to replace the old one until the last water buildup turned into a 4 inch cover of the floor.

@elwrayswrecker: haha, who knew fishes didn't like loud noises in their tank? What do they have sensitive fish ears or something? It's like me, I live near a hospital and all the sirens drive me crazy haha.

But now I want a Leak Frog because my basement does flood from a nearby lake. This is a good enough price to get two to put in the two danger spots in my basement.

These will go off if they sit on something that gets damp.
They are cute. They are small. They work.

I have a pair and they recently saved my bacon (froglegs?). I had a supply line to a sink burst unexpectedly. Lil' croaker sounded his alarm and I was able to shut everything off before any major damage occurred.

A few months ago I had some water come into my basement, and I had the leakfrog sitting near the drain. Unfortunately I found that the spot I put it on was a high spot, and I (fortunately) didn't get enough water to set it off when it was a few millimeters higher! For kicks I put the frog in the water, and my wife came running downstairs. Since there was water, I found a nice low spot to put it in now! These are good to have around.

EXPENSIVE!

A two-pack of these units were sold for $12.90 on woot back on 12/28/2010.

Also, you can get leak-detectors at your local Lowes/HomeDepot/FredMyer for under $10.

Also, I prefer the type that run on 9v as typical life is a couple of years, vs 1 year with this unit's AAA.

A good feature to look for is low-battery chirp indicator...otherwise you may end up with a non-working detector!

@chrisholland03: You're lucky. I purchased mine after a supply line in the kitchen broke. Before re noticed it it flooded the kitchen, living room, the heating ducts to half the house and two crawl space areas. I now have one of these by each sink in the house and the hot water heater.

@souka: Hey, Woot always has had better deals in the past but that doesn't mean this still isn't a good deal. It's a good discount on a cool looking product. What more can you ask? Just because it was that price a long time ago doesnt mean the price will come back any time soon (or ever). Look at the price of gas for example.

You can't always look to the past and compare it to now. You'll never be happy that way.

@smaltyshake: haha yeah I mean think about all the bad haircuts you've had in the past and you'd never be happy haha.

I mean, prices go up and down but I can't complain about this price... I'll get one now and if that 2 pack ever price comes back I'll get that too. Then I'll have 3 frogs. People will think I have a frog farm or something.

Ahh, after seeing how cute this guy is from his pictures I need one now.

I killed one of them half to death. Drown it and it took in water. It wouldn't stop beeping, when I remove the battery it was wet inside.

Anyway, 1 day in the hot sun and the froggy is good as new again.

These are great on Two for Tuesdays. :)

So if I put this in my son's diaper at night, will it condition him to not wet his diaper?

@bandk1000: No, but it will probably train him to cry at the site of an amphibian.

I got a pair of these in an especially crappy BOC and have no use for them. If someone covers shipping plus a buck or two for my time to drive to the post office they're more than welcome to them.

@giovannib: If they're still on offer, let's talk.

Gave one of these to my parents years ago when I bought a 2 pack. Recent flooding in the Chicago area caused their sump pump to not be able to keep up and water to come in at the window well. The alarm sounded (very loudly) at 2:30 am waking my mom while sleeping upstairs. She was able to work through the night pumping and bailing the water so that it never got to the carpeting. It was a very long night but she was so happy she wasn't like the rest of her neighbors with carpeting, beds and furniture out front for the garbage collector. I received a call with a big thank you! So thank you Leak Frog!
