I'm torn. I really want this game but I also would like to keep my social life. From my understanding the two are mutually exclusive

Also XBOX 360 version for the same price, and these are available in store only.

I've heard that it is a pretty amazing game. The key is that it is not like an online MMORPG (say WOW or Rift or SWTOR) where you are trying to compete with others in gearing and such. Since it is only single player you can go at your pace, ie maintain a social life, and still play. The MMOs often create this false sense of competition which eats lives away when people can't walk away. For this price it is a steal.

Check the ToysRUs Ebay store. $39.99 + free expedited shipping. Ordered my copy yesterday.

@ftuckerman: I'm only seeing collectors editions for $150 on the ebay store.. could you provide a link to where you got yours?

@sumduud: False, your statement is simply not true. I have a wife and a daughter and work a 7am-3:30pm shift M-F. I have been playing Skyrim every waking second that I possibly can. I have had sessions that have "forced" me to retire at 3 am on about 10 different occasions. This game is ridiculously addictive and it makes no difference that it is only single player.

Forget it, they are out of stock. The will take your order then send you an e-mail the next day telling you it is on backorder. Will probably ruin my son's expectations.

@garypaytonglove: Just because you can't prioritize your life doesn't mean others can't. ;)

vote-for3vote-against

@sumduud: Sorry, I've got to agree with @garypaytonglove. It's usually the same story - I power it up, thinking I'm just going to finish that one quest I started when I had to turn it off last time. 3+ hours later, at 1:45am, I find myself yet again cursing my naivety.

$40 deal, with free shipping on orders over $50? Am I supposed to buy two? I plan to get it on steam in a month or two (I hate searching/swaping disks). I am also prone to getting addicted to games every few years, and this might be the one.

Q: you can pause it right, being single player I don't know why it wouldn't. Also is there any chance you can do turn based combat, probably not a big deal since you don't have 4-5 cohorts.

vote-for3vote-against

@thegogmagog: Yes you can pause it. There's no turn based combat or VATS system like in Fallout. It's all real time stuff.

vote-for4vote-against

@fropones: Eventually, you'll find that the two combine into a wonderful fantasy life.

Never buy an elder scrolls game for a console. You are just going to miss out on the best part of the game -- the user created mods. Morrowind, properly modded, looks as good, or better than Skyrim did on release day.

vote-for4vote-against

@thegogmagog: The PC version IS the steam version -- you just get a DVD and the accessories, and avoid downloading it off steam. You can re-download it off steam if you want, later, or you can pop in the disk, and get it done faster.

In store only, so YMMV on this one. I would rather just pony up 10 bucks extra and get it at best buy wit free shipping and know I can get a copy.

I used to shop at Toys-R-Us, like you,

but I took an arrow in the knee.

do your homework on this game for ps3. It sounds like it's still glitchy, even with the latest (this week) patches. I'm holding off on buying till they release the next patch early next year.

vote-for1vote-against

I have had this game for a few weeks now and I haven't even begun to scratch the surface of all of the content in this thing. You will literally get hundreds of potential game-play hours from this game.

You can play at your own pace (as previously mentioned) but you will find that you will play in hours long sessions and can loose track of time easily. This game is GORGEOUS and addictive. If you do not have a previous history with Elder Scrolls games, you may also benefit from getting the Prima strategy guide because the world of Skyrim is enormous!

Can't go wrong purchasing this game! Highly recommended.

@thiney49: Well, it WAS available yesterday. Sorry to get hopes up.
Unlike my attempts to validate Santa, I have proof this existed!

Bam!

vote-for3vote-against

there should be a warning label on the game:

"warning: play at your own risk. you will not see your spouse, gf, bf, fb, bff, fluffy, rover, etc. for a very long time. may cause excessive caffeine consumption and chain smoking. you have been warned."

vote-for3vote-against

this game stole my life and the sad part is, I don't want it back. :)

vote-for1vote-against

This price is for PS3 and Xbox, but not the PC version... (sad face)

Can somebody confirm that this is listed as Out of Stock?

I keep seeing it posted, and the other deals haven't gotten RIP'ed. So I'm wondering if maybe it's showing OOS erroneously to me.

vote-for1vote-against

I went to the Toys R Us near our house and the "help" there was worthless. The kid didn't know if they had it in stock, if they ever had it in stock, if they'll have it in stock again, if they had some in the back room. His answer to everything was "I don't know."

Ugh. I hope everyone has better luck than me.
