great deal-no tax (in ca) and free shipping, I ordered one

vote-for10vote-against

This is a great deal. You should have no trouble taking out the drive if you need a bare drive, and hard drives have very inflated prices right now.

I remember reading that people think the HDD shortage is going to last until the end of 2012, so it's likely to get worse before it gets better.

vote-for-13vote-against

I thought to myself, "WOW! what a great deal! a TV with 2TB of internal memory!" then i clicked the link and it was for an external drive... do you know how disappointed i was?!? sigh...

vote-for6vote-against

It's a USB 3.0 which is quite a shocker for the price as well.

vote-for2vote-against

Does anyone have any experience with these drives? Looks like a good price, but I'm not very familiar with Verbatim... I did a little research and it sounds like the internal drive is Verbatim as well?? Does anyone know how reliable these are?

vote-for5vote-against

@stlstevez: The truth is, unless a particular batch of drives has some manufacturing defect, most consumer-class drives are more or less the same in terms of reliability. Verbatim has been around for a LONG time, if that means anything.

vote-for3vote-against

If it means anything, according to the info provided by Amazon on the same model, it has a 7 year warranty. I'm getting one. "Industry-leading 7-year limited warranty"

@constantvelocitty: At 6:59, it shows the drive as a Samsung drive.

So it's not a Verbatim disk inside, as I suspected. Don't think they make drives, only enclosures and media.

vote-for2vote-against

@constantvelocitty: Thanks a bunch!

The shown drive in the YouTube video (Samsung HD203WI) has the following specs (per Newegg):
Interface - SATA 3.0Gb/s
Capacity - 2TB
RPM - 5400 RPM
Cache - 32MB
Average Seek Time - 8.9ms
Average Latency - 5.56ms

It may or may not contain the same drive, since the YT video was made over a year ago...

vote-for2vote-against

I got one, chose pick up in store and I'm using it right now.
Hard price to beat.

vote-for1vote-against

@jamb4juic3: awww you guys couldnt take a joke... the post was meant to be sarcastic, the earlier image was of a tv set in case anybody was paying attention...

vote-for3vote-against

In for 2. With the warranty and USB 3.0, I couldn't pass it up. Hope to eventually put these in a RAID NAS enclosure or micro server at some point, but I'll stick with software RAID or backups until then...

vote-for1vote-against

Bought two. I don't need them at the moment, but I'll probably need them before prices come down again. Worst case I could double my money selling them in a couple months.

vote-for0vote-against

It's a great deal!
Is it new?
And I want to know when it is launched~

vote-for2vote-against

5400 rpm drive is going to be an issue I would suspect

vote-for3vote-against

@ataxiandream: I've found that RPM isn't really noticable. It's latency that really makes the difference. This drive would be fine as a backup drive, or even a boot drive for most applications.

As of 3:10am (12/5) this is still available for shipment. If you create an account with hhgregg.com they'll even add a 10% off coupon that you can use at checkout.

vote-for1vote-against

6:26am and still listed as available in my area.

vote-for0vote-against

@anklet22: i signed registered a new account and mo 10% off coupon. Do have have the code? thanks

vote-for1vote-against

@davh01: Same here. Anyone offer any suggestion? Maybe it makes a difference whether you sign up for an account before or during checkout? I created the account during checkout.

vote-for1vote-against

@davh01: Once logged into your account go to the My Account link. CLickl on Coupon Wallet. Boom, it's there. Went back to my shopping cart, and the discount was listed in a box below the regular coupon code box. Adding it in only gives a discount for one item, even of you order two as I would have. Weak.

vote-for1vote-against

@robertey: It didn't give me a coupon code. :(

vote-for1vote-against

@robertey: Just kidding. I exited google chrome and redid my cart and it's all there!

vote-for1vote-against

And in for 1 @ $80.99 - $89.00 cheaper than any internal 2TB hard drive on newegg!

vote-for2vote-against

I just called hhgregg.com because my order was still listed as 'processing' and they said they are currently out of stock and had no predicted date as to when my hard drive would come in. Bummer...

vote-for1vote-against

I have a feeling that few if any who ordered are going to get something besides an excuse about a pricing error or indefinite backorder and a refund. my first experience with this company and may not be a good 1

vote-for1vote-against

Received my two today, the shipping was faster than expected and free.

vote-for2vote-against

Just got off the phone with hhgregg.com - I called and told them I was looking for a solution for the order I had called about yesterday. They told me that this drive was a substitute they had for a little while for the Toshiba 2TB USB 3.0 on their website which she said they have in stock. If your order is still processing, call in and say you want your problem resolved. They upgraded me for no extra cost and said they would ship asap. Whether or not this works has yet to be seen, but I'm optimistic. Here's the link to the item they said they would send me.

http://www.hhgregg.com/toshiba-2tb-usb-3-0-desktop-external-hard-drive/item/PH3200U-1E3S

It says it is out of stock, but they claim it's in stock. I guess since their site lied I'll trust their people.

Automation is a great thing. Until it fails.

vote-for1vote-against

Called customer service on the afternoon of Dec 9. Asked about order status They transferred me to an hhgregg store, which I found odd. They told me the item was out of stock, and that their shipping department could give me a time fro,m on restock if they were open. Sigh. Asked for substitution sent me to corporate, where I asked about a sub again. The call taker said they would transfer me to hte store shipping the order (apparently that's how they do it. Odd but it could work). This one was much closer to my house, but not nearly within driving distance. I asked again about order status and a substitution, they told me that all their 2 TB drives were out of stock, but that they could make me a deal on 2 1GB. Grrr. Nie but not good for me.

I've decided to wait on the drive. Irritating, as I'm sure it will come when I'm away for holidays, and I will come back to a frozen lump in my mailbox. I'd heard good things about hhgregg, but not so great so far.

vote-for1vote-against

@constantvelocitty: It seems like with the amount of technology available, this shouldn't happen. Ah well. If it wasn't dirt cheap I would have asked for a refund. I wish now that I'd bought two.

vote-for1vote-against

Called in because I didn't get a follow up email and she said my order is shipping today. I guess we'll see. I'll probably end up calling tomorrow when I don't get a shipment confirmation.

vote-for1vote-against

@constantvelocitty: did you get a shipping confirmation? I ordered mine 8 days ago and still haven't gotten a shipping confirmation email, I dont know what to do..

vote-for1vote-against

I'm in the same boat.. Ordered 9 days ago but it still says processing on the site. I called in yesterday and they said they would 100% guaranteed ship it either yesterday or today. Still no updates. Cancelling my order tomorrow.

vote-for1vote-against

Is anyone else cancelling? I dont know if I should or if I should wait

vote-for1vote-against

@derelict267: Not yet, but I'm thinking about it. I don't really need the space right away, and it was super cheap. Of course, at the rate things are going, an off the shelf 2TB special will cost the same price.
Sometime next year maybe? One thing's for sure, I don't think I'll be ordering anything again from them.

vote-for1vote-against

I ordered mine on Dec 5th and it still says "Processing". I came home today to find it sitting on my doorstep though.

vote-for1vote-against

Oh, and according to Windows there's a Samsung HD204UI inside. They're currently going for $200...

vote-for1vote-against

I did not have a Samsung in mine.

Both of mine contained a Seagate ST2000DL003, 5900 RPM, 64MB Cache, SATA 6.0GB/s - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148681

vote-for1vote-against

I got the product pictured, which is not the product that the video showed was disassembled. Could someone help me with disassembly tips?

vote-for1vote-against

ST2000DL003 in mine too. Disassembly for me involved breaking plastic parts, I don't see a better way either. The video is a different model and this one uses WD Mybook style clips. Here are some pics for those wishing to attempt to engineer a better way to open it.
