We like the cardboard ones.
We were given one of those "S" shaped sandpaper scratchers, and tried a sandpaper like replacement filler for another cardboard type. The cats won't touch the "S" one, and they like to sit on the others as they use the regular cardboard. Maybe your cat will vary.
