Bought it for $18 the other day from Amazon. The price seems to flip every day.

What is the general opinion of the Blu-Ray? I have the DVD set and just purchased my first Blu Ray player and this being one of my favorites I am considering re-buying. Worth it?

@spauldingd: Check out this review on blu-ray.com: http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Firefly-The-Complete-Series-Blu-ray/815/#Review

"As the show arrives on Blu-ray, fans have been presented with an excellent video transfer that does justice to the original photographic style of the show, while offering an appreciable upgrade over the previous DVD version. Audio is a bit on the uninspiring side, but does its very best considering the limited source material. Supplements will, no doubt, please Joss Whedon fans to no end, but casual viewers might not find much of interest. "

I feel like this deal gets posted a lot without regard to price.

@spauldingd: The big problem is they didn't re-do the effects shots. So it does go back and forth between HD film transfer and upconverted SD effects shots. If you think you might find that jarring, you might want to avoid the blu-ray. I went with Blu-Ray. I might regret it if I ever get a bigger TV, but for now it's fine.

Please dont down vote me for asking, but...
What is the appeal of this show? Is it the characters, suspense, sci fi world, etc.? Ive watched the first few episodes and I havent got into it yet.
Thanks

Sportster:

I find the appeal mainly to be excellent story lines (as Joss Whedon is well known for) along with fantastic character development. The further you get into it, the more you get enticed by a secret here, or a little bit of knowledge that will pick at your brain. The preacher, a most unsuspecting character, seems to have the most secrets of them all.

@gdeadfan: Unsuspecting in much the same way as the missionaries in Zorro are.

I think Amazon has been having trouble selling these since they went free to watch for Prime members. I know there are benefits to buying the Blueray, but that has to be helping to lower the price.

I saw it as a nice space saver if nothing else; the DVDs each had their own case within the box, whereas this has a few blu-ray discs and no extra bulky cases. You do lose out on the photos that made up the artwork of the DVD cases, but I guess that's a choice you can make. Me, I went for it.

@spauldingd: I had purchased this (from Amazon), but disc 3 would not load, exchanged it and - guess what - disc 3 would not load (something about Invalid Region). So finally got it on DVD (not Blu-Ray), which at least works. My BD player up converts it to 1080 just fine (on my 60" Sharp Aquos TV).
