You all do realize that the only qualification for a cow to be "angus" is that the hide of the cow be more than 50% black. That's it. It's just a marketing ploy to get people to buy more expensive meat.

Fun fact: Angus are prized for their low birth weight which means easier calving, but also means they usually get Bovine Growth Hormones to catch them up so their size at market reaps a better price

@nzyme36: 1. Your comment would interest my neighbors who raise Red Angus. 2. There is a difference between breeds, some are breed for highest beef quality, such as the "English" breeds, Angus and Hereford. Some are breed for efficiency (highest gain on least food) and some for speed (fastest growth over time). If I didn't have to eat my own beef, I switch to something tall and stringy and efficient. 3. Unless otherwise labeled, you will find most beef is raised with hormone supplements. Like any other industry, if the tech exists, you have to use it to stay competitive. The supplements duplicate naturally occurring hormones and do not exceed what would be produced naturally in the strongest individuals.
