There's a video on YouTube somewhere of this thing... they're realllly bright.

I wish there was some way to "describe" bright lol - seeing the video is what got me to buy my first one, I'm gonna see if I can find it.

[ed] Here's a video for a 300lm flashlight with the same bulb:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gLV6O-rx760
The videos don't do 'em justice.. I'll try to find a better one in a few.

vote-for6vote-against

way to describe light = 300 lumens

vote-for3vote-against

@pinchecat: lol touche. But still, if you don't know what a lumen is it might as well say "5.4 billion gummy-nobbers."

And just in case there're any other flashlight people who see this, check this thing out
18,000 Torch lol.. Go to about 3:20 (I think) if you wanna see a good demo.

"Lumens don't gauge the amount of brightness. A lumen is like a light ray. In essence, the amount of lumens produced is equal to the amount of brightness perceived. This is only taking into consideration the visible light perceived by the eyes and optical center of the brain. It's a SUBJECTIVE Measurement."

vote-for2vote-against

@woottj: sounds like a long-winded way to say "lumens describe bright"

vote-for6vote-against

@woottj: Not really correct. Read this for a REAL explanation of the quantitative measurement of light in lumens.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lumen_%28unit%29

Briefly: The lumen is defined in relation to the candela as

1 lm = 1 cd·sr

A full sphere has a solid angle of 4·π steradians, so a light source that uniformly radiates one candela in all directions has a total luminous flux of 1 cd·4π sr = 4π ≈ 12.57 lumens.

So there! Phhhhhhttttt!

I have a few of these, from various vendors. It is definitely not 300 lumens, but it is a very nice nevertheless. I definitely recommend it.

Amazon also has this quite nice flashlight on sale for under 8 bucks:

http://www.amazon.com/Rayovac-RNR2D-B-Roughneck-Rubbermate-Flashlight/dp/B003D7LHMM/ref=lh_ni_t

The rayovac is brighter and has more runtime, but this other light has a much nicer beam pattern.

300 lumens?? that like 1.5 jigawatts...per flux capacitor! Impressive.

vote-for3vote-against

This looks like the same body as my favorite flashlight from Meritline, but with a brighter LED emitter.

@nema314: "300 lumens?? that like 1.5 jigawatts...per flux capacitor! Impressive."
No it's not.

vote-for3vote-against

Seriously, I got routed to tomtop website, and on the credit card page, it wasn't even in https. Doesn't seem secure - anyone bought with them before? I'm a scam adverse type of guy...

vote-for0vote-against

@portezbie: Under 8 bucks? Shows up as over $22 for me.

vote-for3vote-against

Slightly cheaper here

http://www.ebay.com/itm/300615861130?redirect=mobile

Same seller, but on eBay where feedback is king

vote-for1vote-against

I have the one from ebay (really the same flashlight). It is the best flashlight I have owned in a LONG time.

vote-for0vote-against

@portezbie: That flashlight shows up as $22.61. Where do you see it for under 8 bucks??

vote-for5vote-against

"Skid-proof design & waterproof design"

Now, if I can just get someone to make boxer shorts like that.

vote-for3vote-against

@teeps: I'm just going to use PayPal, so that way they don't have my CC #.

vote-for2vote-against

Just picked up two for $13.36...now it's on the slow boat

vote-for1vote-against

@barrywilliams991: You seem extremely bright when it comes to the science behind this light.

vote-for4vote-against

Just a heads up, when you click on the link above, it takes you to Slickguns.com and shows the $6.68 + Free Shipping price and appears to have the coupon applied.

You must then select the store option where the price returns to $7.42 + Free Shipping.

In order for you to get the $6.68 + Free Shipping price, you must reenter the coupon code TT10APR30 at the TomTop Wholesale center website checkout.

BTW, Air Mail shipping from China.

How bright the flashlight will be will also depend on the battery you use. A good rechargeable battery (eneloop) will be brighter than a non rechargeable battery, but for $7 you can't go too wrong, right?

vote-for1vote-against

Awesome, I'll take one. I wonder what the bezel diameter is...

vote-for3vote-against

@portezbie: Plus the Rayovac is a 2 D cell lite vs. one that uses a single AA/14500 battery, which puts it in a whole different class of size, weight, brightness and longevity IMO. Good to see other options, tho.

vote-for3vote-against

One thing to consider with the extremely bright LED flashlights is whether they come equipped with an electronic driver or a direct driver. With a direct driver (which this cheap, Chinese flashlight almost certainly has), you'll see maximum brightness for about 45 seconds with new batteries. After that, it'll fall to 75% for a while, then drop off rapidly. Electronic drivers regulate power and deliver uniform light levels.

vote-for2vote-against

@jersully: lol.. I think there's a good reason for that :)

They do that with a lot of these - use the same aluminum shell and just swap out the emitter.
I've done about as much research on these cheap Chinese flashlights as somebody can do though - this is definitely the cheapest I've found.

vote-for1vote-against

This is a very enlightening discussion.

vote-for3vote-against

Oh, something important I left out up top..

This has the option to use TWO different batteries.. Standard AA or 14500.

The 14500 should give you a little brighter beam. They'll less common, but you can get good recharge kits for not much.

vote-for2vote-against

Ordered a couple of these the last time around. Def not 300 lumens my 140 lumens tac light is much brighter. When on fine focus you see the diode for the LED. Overall I got what I was expecting for the price a cheap Chinese knock off. Build quality is good all the treads are large enough to be durable. But don't expect this thing to be anywhere near 300 lumens from a AA battery!

Conclusion, great deal for the price b/c it's much better then the LED lights at home depot and lowes but in no way a replacement for a real Tac light.

vote-for2vote-against

@quadtodd: Oh yeah, I realize they are totally different, I just really like flashlights and that was another good deal I happened to see recently.

It is actually showing as 7.07 for me on amazon, wow, I wonder how low they will go. I guess I got ripped off paying 10.70 for it, heh.

If anyone is interested in a nice AAA light, this is one of my favorites:

http://www.dealextreme.com/p/mxdl-xt-7119-3w-50-lumen-led-flashlight-with-clip-color-assorted-1-aaa-55748?item=7

it's probably closer to 25-35 lumens, but its a really nice penlight for under 4 bucks.

vote-for2vote-against

@portezbie: I have one of those super-mini AAA lights similar to that one.. they make AWESOME pocket lights. A liiiiittle bit bigger than a keychain light, but 100x's brighter.
I only paid a couple bucks for mine, but that seems like a decent deal too.

And just in case you missed that video up top check this out

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RMbTbqZNub4
This one has some awesome comparisons too:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q65DF2s0k_g&feature=related
Absolutely unrelated, but you said you like flashlights.

vote-for1vote-against

The only regret in buying one of these is that after it arrives, you'll wish you had bought 3 or 5.

vote-for1vote-against

Bought 4... if they're even close to the brightness of my Fenix LD10, I'll be happy. 4 of 'em total with the coupon code was $26 and change, and I got to use PayPal, so they don't have my CC or bank info.

Eh... we'll see. :D

vote-for2vote-against

@not2cheap: Yeah, the first time you see one of these little CREE lights in action it's always impressive.. not even specifically this one, just any decent little light.

I have a few nice CREE lights and I'm still impressed every time I flip 'em on lol

vote-for1vote-against

@jersully: I thought the same thing as soon as I saw it. I literally carry my Sipik from Meritline every single day to work. People are amazed at how bright a little one AA battery flashlight can be. I'm going to order one of these to see if it's better.

vote-for-2vote-against

Do your homework before leaving comments drchops, First the website you list is an Airsoft website so of course the items are cheaper and shipping is not free there, Second If any of my products were for Airsoft I would list them that way. Third, I have beed doing business for a long time and have had no complaints about my products. Fourth I created my website and quit being jealous because your sitting in your moms basement taking a break from WOW and decide to be an expert in something you know nothing about. Fifth, Im kinda worried that If you don't get outside one in awhile you may miss Life.
Time to wake up and maybe get a life.

vote-for1vote-against

anyone get theirs yet? i ordered one and got charged on my cc, but never got any sort of confirmation number or anything. i would've thought it would've been here by now?
