Don't listen to the theatrical version haters. I bought the extended version this year and I fell asleep way too many times because the long boring parts (especially in the two towers) become even longer and more boring. There is a reason that stuff was cut out, if u want the full story just read the books again because the extended version still has gaping holes of missing content. Hell, most of the world doesn't even know who Tom Bombadil is because they felt he wasn't important enough to put in the extended version even!

@xzelick: If only the Elves had the insight to build a button into your remote to assist with skipping those scenes.

@pleepleus: The Elves have a "Skip Extended Version Scene" button? Seems rather specific...

Decent deal, though Walmart recently sold the trilogy for $5 each (so 15 total) and will probably do it again sometime. Gotta agree with the people saying the extended edition is just way too long for non-hardcore fans to sit through.

@xzelick: Hey dol! merry dol! ring a dong dillo! Ring a dong! hop along! fal lal the willow!

@bogus: I got that deal from Walmart when they did that, but they weren't available for pickup (not just for my local store, but it was online only), and with tax and shipping it came to $22.17.

So this is still a good deal to go ahead and jump on!

Oh, and sucks that these have so many many bad ratings for not a very good reason. It seems like some website maybe got together and said let's crap all over this product because we thought we were getting something else!

With that said, this product was about $30 only a week or two ago, so maybe they're lowering the price to drive sales to counter the bad reviews, so perhaps it could go lower!

@bogus:

Did those individual sets have the extras that this set has?

Great price if you don't have a preference for the Extended Editions, or if you want both.

$80 for extended or $23 for normals... I went to the theaters to watch the extendeds and I think they were good but they were a bit long for casual audiences. I don't think I could get my wife to sit through any of them.

Some of the best movies of all time, but again, I want the extended version, even though this price is fantastique!

@zapp brannigan: hah, I'm lucky if my girlfriend will sit down to even watch Star Wars for more than 30minutes without complaining/falling asleep. Or almost any sci-fi/fantasy movie.

Does someone know the difference between this set and the one for $27.99 that Amazon also sells? They look the same, it could be something about spanish subtitles, about which i am interested, and that is why i ask. In any case, does someone know if this one ($23.49) has spanish subtitles and/or spanish track? Thanks

vote-for2vote-against

They have different ASIN codes, so, they could be different items. Also, i ask about the subtitles and track because those specifications at Amazon are wrong sometimes

@andrasko15: @zapp brannigan:

I asked what my gf wanted to watch last weekend and she started debating whether to watch Star Wars or Lord of The Rings.

The extended edition is for geeks like me that will watch the trilogy over and over and over and never get bored with it. This would work fine for the casual LTR fan though. I bought the extended edition and I love every minute of it. Don't get me wrong, I won't wear a hobbit costume to the Hobbit movie, but I will be there at 12am on the day it comes out....by myself (no kids, no wife, no friends).
