Someone has to pay for the new hobbit movies. What's next the extended collector edition, with theatrical release.....

Is the digital copy available immediately and is it HD Copy or Sd, or Streaming only?

Amazing that there's almost 1000 reviews even though it hasn't been released yet.

@jnixon: This is a huge pet peeve of mine, people reviewing the movie instead of the DVD / BlueRay which is actually the product that is supposed to be under review. It seems to be rampant on Amazon but that might be just because that's the place I've read most DVD reviews.

maybe its been digitally remastered with NEW state-of-the-art effects and all the orcs have been replaced with ewoks and all the swords replaced with walkie talkies...

that's if spielberg & lucas help out.

@histumness: here is a review I found from The Digital Bits. One of the better sites of it's kind but they have a review of the extended blu-ray version. Here is the link if interested.

@histumness: This is actually somewhat the fault of Amazon.com's whacked rating system. If you notice, some of the reviews specifically ARE for the DVD EE, not the Blu-ray. (In fact, the first review is.) Amazon lumps all reviews of products together, whether it's VHS, DVD, Blu-ray, laser disc or Beta. It makes it particularly annoying for those of us who want to know specifics about the Blu-ray vs the DVD in terms of quality, packaging, etc.

Not trying to say that your case doesn't make sense, however, Amazon.com definitely holds at least some of the blame.

I have this on pre-order for $67.95 from Borders, however, being a huge fan of Amazon's customer service and my 3% cash back with my Amazon card, I may change my order to Amazon.com.

@jnixon: Actually, if you read the reviews you will see they are not for this version, but for many other LOTR permutations. This is my pet peeve about Amazon. They routinely combine reviews for similar, yet dissimilar, items (e.g., Western Digital HD, 500GB, 1TB, 1.5TB will have "shared" reviews). It becomes very difficult to find actual product reviews.

@pleepleus:

How did you get it for that amount at Borders? Their website shows $93.74. The reason I ask is that I have a $100 Borders Gift Card and was going to buy this. But if it's only $70 on Amazon, I'll probably just go that route.

Thanks!

Pre Ordered back in March when it was $83.99, this is a huge price drop!

YOU SHALL NOT PASS... up on this deal.

I wish these looked like old school books like the old ones - that's amazing packaging.

@agbertoni: I used a 50% off coupon. They gave me 50% off the 'retail' price ($120+). I'm sure you can find a 50% code around the interwebs. Although, again, I'd rather give Amazon my money.

If you have pre-ordered it, you might have to call them. In my pre-order page, it still showed $83.99. Maybe when it actually shipped they would have changed it to $69.99. I thought their policy was to automatically give you the lower price if it dropped. Maybe it would have given more time, but I didn't want to take the chance.

@strider300: They will adjust it after it ships. They used to just charge the lower price, now they charge the higher price at shipping, then refund the difference, later. (Usually takes a day or two.) If it's the only item you ordered, cancel the order and place it again, if you don't want to wait a couple days for your card to be refunded back.

screw the studio for taking so long to put this out, it's totally unreasonable. the number of individual and box-set releases make it clear that they are milking this cash cow extra hard. don't buy it, stick it to those hors

Borders needs the money more than Amazon.

One disappointment to me is most of the extra's is just the DVD version.

Half the reason I buy a Blu-ray/DVD is for the extras.

On the Amazon.com page it says: Note: Most of the bonus features are on DVDs, not Blu-ray Discs. The feature films are on Blu-ray.

Happy the films are Blu-ray.
