Great...confuse everyone by calling this USB modem a "router". C'mon, man. It is a USB modem, people...a USB MODEM.

vote-for-1vote-against

@id6klub: Agreed. Downvoted for the incorrect usage of the word "Router"

vote-for6vote-against

@id6klub: Technically it's a "bridge". "Modems" were analog devices which signaled over phone lines. Most everything we call a 'modem' these days, isn't.

If only there was a way to connect this to a micro usb connection so then I could use it on my Acer Icona Tablet

dual mode? shouldn't there be three modes ?

If you buy this from Sprint, it is "free" with a two year plan:

http://shop.sprint.com/mysprint/shop/phone_details.jsp?prodId=dvc6290026prd&deviceSKUId=62900282&flow=AAL&planSKUId=&ptn=&tabId=dt_mbc

The plans listed for this device are pretty expensive, plus it says there is an additional $10 fee:

Sprint has other, cheaper plans, but this is what it says is available for this device.

OK, the only way to get the cheaper "no-commitment" 3G is to follow these instructions. Go to this link, near the top, click on "Get it on laptops, datacards & Wi-Fi hotspots."

How to get it

Ready to try it out? As long as your device hasn't been activated with a monthly plan, you can follow the steps below to start surfing on your terms:

1. Plug in or connect your device to your computer, and launch Sprint SmartView to connect to the Sprint network.
2. Once on the welcome screen, select the New Customer checkbox and then the No Commitment radio button.
3. For a day pass on us, select the Enter promo code radio button, instead, and then enter Free Day in the field you see.
4. On the next screen, select the pass type you want, enter your payment info and agree to the purchasing Terms & Conditions.

Any way to set this up as prepaid/pay-as-you-go?

vote-for7vote-against

@tsfisch: Did you bother to even read the other posts, especially the one right above yours?

vote-for6vote-against

@tsfisch: Actually, a modem is a modulator / demodulator, so wireless devices such as wifi adapters, wifi routers, and bluetooth devices are modems because they modulate digital data onto a high frequency carrier wave and demodulate the incoming signals back into digital data.

@wasserkapf: Sorry, I've never heard "prepaid" referred to as a "no commitment plan". To me a "plan" means "contract".

Sorry I don't have the cell phone lingo down to your liking, but thanks for your information.

$20 for 1 GB? That's a bit high isn't it?

vote-for3vote-against

@tsfisch: It's what the providers call it. I just put a miniPCI ATT card in my netbook, and was looking at their plans. That is what they call it too.

Did you think it meant that you didn't have to buy it a ring? :)

@fyrfytr44: don't most (if not all) Acer tablets have full size USB? I know my A500 does and so do many others....

vote-for2vote-against

I'm quite sure I'm going to be ditching my Cable internet plan in the near future and going with something like this. It's just me in my place, why not?

vote-for2vote-against

@nuangel: This will be much more expensive than DSL or cable internet.

vote-for2vote-against

Does anyone know if this will work with Clear (which uses the Sprint network)?

vote-for2vote-against

@jasonchrin: That price is for the tablet only. It's much higher if you want to pay using this USB router.

vote-for2vote-against

@nuangel: Do you really think you'll use less than 1.5GB/mo?
