Seriously, one of the best items for a survival kit. I recommend using it to start your fires on a regular camping trip just to get practice, should you ever need it.

Looks like you can only order 1 at that price. Not worth it to just buy 1.

I bought one of these last time they were listed on here for $1.49. It took a long time to arrive but I was in no hurry to get it so other than that it was good except it is made in China which wasn't much of a surprise.

@mmessy00: The shipping's free, so why not? I've purchased single small items like this over a dozen times from meritline. With the slow free shipping, it's like sending myself little surprise gifts.

I am surprised that it is still alive. Great addition to the Zombie
Apocalypse preparedness kit.

Purchased (coupon code still works). I already have a flint like this, but I see no problem having multiple as these things are awesome.

Still good as of 11:00 AM Eastern Daylight Time.

I also don't understand how it isn't worth it to get one of these for $1.49 delivered. Admittedly, it will take about three weeks to get here, but it will be a nice surprise at that time.

@publiclurker: I still got one, but I wish they would let me get a dozen at that price. Great gift idea!

Picked one up. Good enough price to have it in my gear for camping/kayaking this summer.

Reached the maximum redemption limit. Darn.

Just checked, Coupon is dead now.

Dead... 300 limit reached.

Too bad, I guess I will have to wait until a good price comes around again.

@mmessy00: I'm pretty sure they do this as a loss-leader. they don't make any money at that price, but they may get people to buy other things while they are there. I know that I've gotten a number of items this way.

If you have a Harbor Freight near you, these are a good alternative: http://www.harborfreight.com/magnesium-fire-starter-66560.html

Sometimes Harbor Freight has them on sale for less than $2.00

I saw them at Walmart too, in the camping department, but I don't remember how much they were there.

edit: looks like Harbor Freight wants to be a pain in the ass with linking. Search for "Magnesium Fire Starter".
