These pump out surprisingly great quality audio. After I got a really good set of headphones, I discovered that my phone and computer are both horrible audio sources and picked up one of these based on what I read elsewhere. I was not disappointed. Throw Rockbox ( http://www.rockbox.org ) on it and it's even better.

I'm curious as to how comparable these are with iPods. So far the comments have been only good. What does everyone think?

@dmaz: These are practically disposable mp3 players that do what they're supposed to do very well.

Ipods are pieces of art.

From what I remember, the sound quality on ipod touches is actually pretty bad, most audiophiles suggest bypassing the onboard DAC (chip that decodes the music files) and amplifier by attaching an LOD+external dac/amp. Fiio L9+Fiio E5 is an example of such a combination, but I'm not sure as to how much better it would sound.

Basically, rockboxed sansa>ipod in terms of sound quality.

Ipod>sansa in terms of utility.

The sansa's a one trick pony.

I like the fact that the Sansa can pick up radio stations

I love the fact that they are washable ( not recommended ) and drop proof...also not recommended..and they still play like a charm!
