Maybe it looks like you'd just rent the one audiobook for this amount, but actually if you play your literature right you could be renting up to four books per month, as you finish one, return it, and select another. Figure if you spend two or three days "reading", and have transit on both sides, you'd have the next selection and the next. If you just rent one audiobook at a time, that is. If you rent two at a time, you can double the entertainment at just a bit more, just starting at 14.25 first month.
If you compare it to buying it, it saves you money. There's a site that sells audiobooks for a monthly subscription, but that's where you buy one single audiobook per month for that price. If you want to "read" another, you have to pay more. Not so with this. Plus, where will you store your audiobook? There's no fancy binding for a shelf. You have to create the storage yourself if you don't get the physical CD.
So be a good Hobbit, and see the 66 selections by and about Tolkien.
