I love that the product costs $49 and that the extended Apple Care warranty is $39. They might want to update that if they expect anyone to pay %80 of the cost of the device in warranty fees.
Or you could wait for the next Sansa Clip on Woot, spend $20 and get a far superior product with twice the memory. Just a thought...
I would say these non-sale Apple advertising plugs put up by the Apple fanboys are the worse misuse of deals.woot.com, but the semi-nude women of the soft porn non-sale outfits that show up in groups of two or three every night still rank as the worse!
Wait for a Sansa Clip on Woot....much better buy...
And here I just ordered our second Zune HD.
(I'm serious by the way. I know people mock the Zune as Microsoft's failed attempt at eating into iPod domination, but we really like them.)
Sorry, one more comment. Just wanted to point out that you can get 2Gb MP3 players without LCD screens for literally $5: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4545190&CatId=2761
(A while back they were running this with a $5 mail in rebate! That was sweet.)

@kc8ukw: I loved my original zune. I owned an iPod, a zune, and then an iPhone, now I use a diferent phone and use my phone's MP3 Player. I am so glad to be rid of apple (and AT&T, but that's a different rant.) In Microsoft's defense, they probably would have won the MP3 player war if they had a DRM loving, Jailbreak hating, Turtle neck sporting, Shiny piece of crap selling pompous ass behind them. It seems like now a days anyone will waste their dollars on something shiny with fruit on it, even if it is a terrible invention. (Macbook Air, anyone?)
Are we talking about the new Shuffle? The regular price is $50. I fail to see how it's a deal.
Now, if the old 4GB Shuffle had the same price...
@phoebus13: I LOVE my Sansa Clip+. Put in a 16GB MicroSDHC. A little clunky, but 20GB MP3 player for under $50. Let's see Apple try that.
why would anyone post one of the top 3 biggest pieces of crap apple has ever come up with? this shinny piece of silver shiz is hardly worth 10 dollars let alone 50.
'iPod Shuffle, pushing innovation and imagination BACKWARDS'
i agree with the sansa fans. I went out on a limb and bought the sansa clip 8gb, i couldn't be happier with it. enough space, small, has a screen, good battery life. suck it apple!
...and santa please get me one of the new ipod touches for christmas. those things look pretty awesome.
@kc8ukw: I still own a first generation brown Zune. It was 30 GB, until my son dropped it and the hard drive died. So, I ordered a 60 GB replacement off eBay. It works great, even though the drive has an Apple logo on it. I was half-expecting the universe to be destroyed from mixing Apple and Microsoft like that.
As for this "deal," what's the big deal? It's the normal price.
@srlagarto: doesn't apple have a self destruct code in it's products to prevent contact/use with unapproved components/accessories? i figured that's how suicide bombers smuggle their stuff undetected. >_<
Sansa Clip 2GB is superior in each and every way. (and half the cost)
I will never buy a crapple product, mainly because I am not retarded. (like all this crapple/smackintosh idiots who like to pay waaay to much for proprietary hardware/software) Fails.
^ Denial is the first step. One day you too shall see the light.
@andrewtl: I agree man... These babies on here are either A) People who haven't seen the light & can't recognize a good product when they see it OR B) Jealous because they can't afford the nicer items & decide to hate the stuff & the people who can afford them.
I bought a family member an HP laptop for Christmas last year (Mistake #1) within 5 weeks it was acting up. Called HP the arabs & indians they use for customer service were worthless! Ended up spending about 6-7 hours on the phone with them over the course of a week. Finally they agreed to ship it to a USA service center to warranty it out. NOPE, they sent it to Brazil to have it fixed. Both was against what they said they were going to do. Not to mention they said ti would take 5 days... YEA, 3 weeks later we got it back. Within a month it had the same problem, sent it off again, same story as above.
Yea, I spent about $2,000 on my MacBook Pro, but ya know what???
(Cont) I get someone who ALWAYS speaks English here in USA when I call customer service, If I have an issue with my Apple product I take it to the store, about a 20 minute drive. I deal with English speaking people from the USA there & I have my product back to me in no more than 3 days & that's when they are busy.
My first laptop had some issues (I bought it refurbished from Apple), had some problems with it, same problem over & over. Finally on the 4th time Apple sent me a BRAND NEW Macbook Pro, not refurbished like I had purchased, BRAND NEW. Not to mention it was better spec wise than the one I had purchased.
This is why you pay more for an Apple product, they take care of their customers. I'd rather pay more, deal with Americans in the USA who speak English, have a local service center versus one in another country.
@kevskoolkars: Or you could A: learn to work on your own computers and B: save a helluva lot of money. Apple is last years tech at next year's price.
How is this a deal? LOL, get a Sansa Clip or similar Memorex! You will be satisfied, unless you need some shiny Apple gear to look cool.
...or you could get a 4Gig Sansa Fuze for the same price. http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=5214100&CatId=4518
Besides getting a shiny toy, you will be able to watch videos and view photos on a 1.9" color screen, listen to FM, record voice, expand with a micro-SD and use subscription services with millions of songs in their libraries rather than buying. But it's YOUR money.
@snurble: Why should I work on it when it is under a warranty? Work on it myself = void warranty. DUH...
Not all of us are techie geeks, nor do we care to be...
@kevskoolkars: You don't have to be a "geek" to use a laptop. Is it too much to ask for you to not be ignorant of the technology you're paying so much money for? That's like buying a car without knowing how to replace a flat tire.
@foamyfrog: I can :use" my expensive fancy laptop just fine. However if something were to go wrong with it above & beyond normal I wouldn't be the guy to take care of it.
Let me put it in my terms since you used a car. You can change a flat tire, but can YOU replace a cam? Probably not. My point is made.
Now, again, why would I even attempt to fix my own laptop when it is under warranty??? Thats dumb.
By the way if you read the above you would have known we weren't talking about using an item...
50 bucks for a screen-less player. It reminds me of the good times of the Walkman.
Actually keV I'm surprised that if you are technical enuf to swap out a cam that you aren't able to fix your own computer.. I was raised around cars and am able to work on my computer equipment with ease.. As are most technical people.. Engines and computers and other machines req the same skillset.. Which I guess you are lacking since you are unable to fix a simple machine..
It's funny to see all the thoughtless Apple bashing.
Last year's tech? I don't seem to recall something like the iPhone before it came out, or like the iPad. I don't seem to recall seeing any unibody laptops before the Macbook Pro. I very rarely saw built in webcams or backlit laptop keyboards or multi-touch track pads or modern unix based OSs, until Apple did those things. Now they are standard.
I do recall the haters saying the iPod was the last nail in the coffin for Apple, and that the iPhone was surely the end of Apple, and that the iPad would crash and burn and would never take off. Of course, now we have Microsoft and Google playing "Me Too" as much as possible to catch up.
Apple iPad? Boo, who needs it?! Android Tablet? Yay, we always wanted one! lol
It's also humorous to see the "Macs are for people who aren't good with computers" argument, considering Macs are standard issue at Google, and Facebook, and Twitter, and many other companies in Silicon Valley.
@kevskoolkars: I know I'm a little late returning to the conversation, but oh well. We'll continue with the car analogy; scale a car down to approximately the size of a laptop and I'm fairly certain I could replace a cam. I have absolutely no idea how to as of now, but thanks to the internet I've done plenty of troubleshooting with absolutely no idea where to start. Any problem you've had, someone else has had it, fixed it, and posted the steps online.
Now to sort of dispute the car analogy: a car contains many parts inside many parts. A computer, especially a laptop, is pretty flat once taken out of the case. Every peice you can replace yourself is pretty accessable. Here comes a TLDR response...
@enantiodromia: By last years' tech I was referring mainly to their computer components. The iphone was quite an ingenius idea, I'll admit. I, however, owned a windows tablet a few years ago that was released in '05 maybe? Tablets are not THAT new of an idea. Also, I believe multitouch was actually accomplished sometime before 2000. I doubt it was ever even considered useful in a consumer product, but it well predates the iphone.
Builtin webcam? I personally have no use for one. Unibody laptop? Makes no difference to me. Need the body to be stronger? Buy a toughbook. I would be much more accepting of Apple if they didn't market themselves as so far above everything else. It makes people feel superior for spending two times as much as I would on a computer. No, it means they either have more money than I and don't care about it, or they're stupid and don't understand the concept of thriftiness.
I'm going to step past the Apple bashing and the name calling, and try to get back to the actual post. I've played with the Shuffle, and found it lacking. Compared to other MP3 players on the market, it just doesn't hold up. Nothing against Apple, as I do proudly own Apple products... but the Shuffle isn't their best work. I would recommend other products before it, and definately not at full price.
I own the iPhone 4 and love it, but I also own the Sansa Clip 8gb and use it at the gym/jogging all the time.
Shuffle is tiny, convenient and practically indestructible. Full charge in 30 minutes, plays for hours. Easy to load, output excellent. Assorted colors. Warranted. Precision engineering and manufacture. Reliable and reasonably priced given qualities mentioned. Had mine for years with zero problems.
@cobaltqube: replacing a hard drive or something of that nature is OK... however, NOT all computer fixing is that. Sometimes it requires going into the software & doing something or another. I have no idea how to sre-write code in a program for example. Sure I can learn & spend time on the internet trying to figure it out... oh wait if my computer isn't working I can't get online!
So no, you're argument for the car computer comparison is severely lacking. A cars ECU goes bad I replace the component & don't go into the software & try to fix it...
@phoebus13: Yeah...but does you're Sansa come with (not free) ENGRAVING?!
