October 1, the shop I went to wouldn't sell me a Subway Club for $5 because it was a "specialty" sub. Today, another shop was happy to do so. (Guess where I'm buying subs in the future.)

vote-for0vote-against

That tag should say "Jared WAS fat"!

vote-for1vote-against

@hum1021: oh oh me. A: at the "other" shop?

vote-for4vote-against

I had a shop tell me the same thing at the register. I politely let them know they could keep their sub.

@chupas: The deal is clearly for a "Regular" sub. These are listed on the menu board as such. I suppose if you were confused you could have simply asked if what you ordered would be $5, rather than stick the store with something they wouldn't be able to sell to another customer.

@stanleys: I understand your point, but they shouldn't advertise ANYtober then. They should rename their sale "Regulotober".
Same goes for Pizza Hut's "ANY PIZZA for $10!!!!"

My $5 footlongs never went anywhere. How could they possibly return if they never left?

vote-for3vote-against

Everyone knows subway is full of crap with their use of the word "any". It's not ANY. Their website and stores try to further qualify the use of the word but that's only AFTER you decided you want the Carne Asada or Feast.

Dubious and misleading.

vote-for23vote-against

After looking at the picture, I clicked the link expecting to be able to buy Jared's old pants. So disappointed.

vote-for7vote-against

Ladies and germs!!! It is "ANY Regular FOOTLONG". Regular, regular, regular. You may not like it but that is what it clearly says. Read it and weep, but is a regular sub only.

vote-for3vote-against

I wanted Jared's pants and that other guys Subway club they wouldn't sell him for $5..... darn it! I blame Obama!

vote-for1vote-against

@mitchu14: I don't really have an issue with Subway's use of "any". They at least specify upfront that it is for any "Regular" sandwich. That is not an incorrect use of the word "any" at all.

vote-for1vote-against

I will admit that maybe I didn't look any further into the matter before ordering my sub because, like many others here and I'm sure even more in the world, I though any meant any. I think the mistake was in making the catch phrase "five droller foot longs" instead of "five droller regular foot longs"

ANYway... They lost my business because of that and the switch from the old subway card where you got a free sub after 5 or so. Now its a free REGULAR after 15. For the same price I just go to Publix.

vote-for7vote-against

i really dont think this should be on deals.woot

vote-for4vote-against

@cupofworms does have a point...

if a "deal" is advertised on every channel in every market, emblazoned upon billboards and subway windows throughout every region habitable by humans; so much so that if you haven't heard about this deal already you're not likely the type to stop [playing WoW/browsing Woot/watching QVC/stalking people online] in order to take advantage of it in the first place...does it really belong?

vote-for3vote-against

did you ever read the fine print on someof their food? The cold cut combo is made with Ham, Balonga and Salami, all TURKEY Based meat.

vote-for1vote-against

Subway might just be the worst tasting sub place around.

vote-for4vote-against

@mkentosh: And that's a bad thing? :-)
Surely healthier than "real" ham, bologna and salami!

vote-for1vote-against

@mkentosh: You just changed my life! I'm allergic to beef so I never ordered the cold cut combo (since I can't ask the subway workers if it has beef because they'll just give me a panicked look and I just assumed the bologna had beef). But I know what I am getting for lunch tomorrow!

vote-for-1vote-against

@stanleys: doesn't mean they aren't trying to mislead us. they aren't completely innocent... just like 99% of businesses who try to get away with bs like this daily. capitalism breeds this kind of consumer fu*&ckage. It's the American way.

Subway is a shady company. Business was good in the 1990's and early 2000's. Subway grew and signed up tons of new franchisees. Subway became a way for a person with not much capital to start their own business and make a living. Then the sandwich market saturated and growth stalled, so the parent company came up with creative ways to increase revenue. They required stores to stay open longer hours, serve breakfast, and honor these loss-leading $5 promotions.

This scheme helped the parent "Subway" company make more money on royalties (a percentage of gross sales), while all the franchisees broke even or lost money on increased expenses and lower margins. Subway became a less happy place.

The point is that you might not want to buy food from a restaurant with an angry, frustrated owner.

vote-for2vote-against

Read the fine print, people. It says 'prices and participation may vary.' Basically if a franchise does not care to participate, then they don't have to.

vote-for0vote-against

@thefowles1: Man, the tag was removed. There goes my (failed) attempt at being funny.

vote-for2vote-against

If they want to temporarily lower the price of all of their regular subs to $5, then what's wrong with using the "ALL" word. If someone is interested in that discount they should ask before ordering to ensure they get it. I like their turkey ham. It has a lot less fat than pig ham. Plus, I won't be angering the MAN upstairs if he believes in that cloven-hoofed-but-not-cud-chewer prohibition. Unless ham-flavoring violates the spirit of the SPIRIT. I digress...

vote-for2vote-against

Am I the only one who gets my $5 worth of food poisoning from Subway??

vote-for1vote-against

@mkentosh: I used to work at a Subway and the main ingredient in the hamburgers isn't beef, its soy.

vote-for1vote-against

BOO!!! This is an ad not a deal!! A $5 sandwich?? A drink makes it a $7 meal. And Subway acts like they are afraid to put meat on their sandwiches. Maybe I am jaded but it wasn't that long ago all subs were $2.99 and then they took away the sub stamps

vote-for1vote-against

I really wonder if they want my Subway returns.
I would be happy to give it, but I think it may violate some decency laws

I've heard "Jared" used more than "Subway Returns" a la commode to become thin.
