Acer AS5733Z-4851 15.6” Laptop (Manufacturer Refurbished) for $259.99 + free shipping
You’re not really a discount electronics store until you’ve sold a refurbished Acer laptop.
But it's not a MacBook! :(
Specs are ok. It's a good starter laptop.
Acer has been a pain in my side for the last year, I would stay far away from Acer and their crappy Customer Service
Hey guys, let me know if you have any questions and I'll be glad to answer :)
@iamsuchatowel: who are you?
@rychard: lol my thoughts exactly.
Sorry guys, this is Bobby with Acer eBay Customer Support
@iamsuchatowel: could you possibly put a video card in this (a laptop one of course) as an upgrade?
@andrasko15: Unfortunately, all the specs are unable to be upgraded from what they are in the listing.
Will this work with my Mac?
red flag: Pentium Dual Core... old processors that are so outdated
So is this good computer for just basic stuff like facebook etc? i want to get one for my mother that is fast etc.
It's an Acer, but spec wise, this computer is pretty decent for the money. It will definitely be adequate for general use (email, web surfing, Netflix, etc).
Intel Pentium Dual Core P6100 processor 2.0GHz, 3MB L3 Cache is NOT an outdated processor. Launched Q3 2010. Not exactly a screaming CPU but it is not all that bad.

This is not a bad deal actually. I am thinking of getting one just for the next person that asks me what they should buy (I get that every 2-3 weeks).
@joedetroit: What should I buy? ;)
@krazyk412: haHA! lessee.... as I said, this Acer is not a bad deal. BestBuy had Asus machines last week that were similar for $350. So this refurb discount is not huge.
BB has a couple from $330 to $380 this week. BB has competitive prices on laptops because they almost always limit the warrenty to one year. Then they've been know to tell me that the manufacturer warrenty is useless & you GOTTA buy BB's warrenty. So they are actually selling warrenties that come with a computer these days.
I've worked on a few Acers & they are not bad. Not a lot of bloatware (like HP!) & a decent website to get drivers. If you do buy one make your "start-up disks" right away. Load all your programs, then make a drive image backup (using Win7's backup) & a restore disk for that backup & all should be well.
I bought a 5738Z model (a tad higher specs) Acer back in 2009 and it has been great. I've traveled with it all over, even on a 2 month trip to China and have had no problems. The Pentium processor in it is a variation of Intel's Core2 series, not the old Pentiums. Intel just likes to reuse names, which makes it confusing. You can upgrade the RAM (DDR3) and the hard drive, but not something like graphics. I've found the built-in Intel GMA4500M graphics were actually rather nice (I'm not a gamer). Mine has HDMI output, too, which is great.
@iamsuchatowel: can you confirm the weight? Listing shows 10.2 lbs. That's way heavy, so I 'assume' (there I go with assumptions) that's shipping weight? I've seen another site listing it at <6 lbs.
Is anyone aware of the quality of the materials on this model? Wife has an older more basic model (AS 5517), but plastic is really flimsy. Also the touch pad on her laptop is not nearly sensitive enough and the scroll function is essentially useless.
With that said, only issue I have had is the hard-drive failed, but I can't blame that on Acer. Just not sure if those are common to Acer, her computer was a bargain model from a bargain brand.
My son wants this to game on..will it work?
The weight of this laptop is approximately 5.7 pounds.
@laurim45: In a word, no.
Buy him a cheap desktop for video games. Laptops generally suck at gaming, particularly bargain lappys like this one.
Does this have an HDMI output?
Can I put a ham sandwich on the keyboard, close the lid, and get a nice ham 'n' cheese melt?
@gulluc: This item does not have a HDMI output
@highone: Yes, but you'll have to tape over the fan exhaust. If you're tech-savvy, that shouldn't be too hard; otherwise, ask someone or look it up online.
No exposive batteries, unfortunately; it's not a Mac. (starts running!)
@krazyk412: Beat me to it. Just this Sunday I retired a sick old HP laptop that I worked to death, and had to put a very minimal Gateway tower on its duties. I could use a free laptop, even a basic one like this.
@zeke7: Actually, these CPUs are just over a year and a half old. They were released at the end of 2010. This CPU actually outperform my current laptop's Core 2 Duo P8400 (that I paid over $900 for over 3 years ago) And I still consider mine to be a decently powerful mobile processor. Paired with a mobile nVidia 9600M I can keep up with some current games. So long as this doesn't come with a shotty battery (as some refurbs do...) this looks to be a decent deal.
Hi everybody, we added some more quantity for this deal, which caused it to list under a different number, you can either link to it at the top of the page "This listing has ended. The seller has relisted this item or one like this" or find it under eBay # 260968756520
I ordered one a couple of hours ago, my second Acer. Just a question about the refurb: are they relatively clean and unscuffed or will the 'used' quality be apparent? Also, how fast is shipping? I'm in New York. Thanks.
@kggoodman: The items may have light scratches on the outside cosmetics, but they will be superficial and not readily apparent upon inspection, if they exist at all.
@kggoodman: The items will either come out of Texas or Indiana and will ship from our warehouse within one business day.
@iamsuchatowel Maybe I am just dumb, but I can't find the other item. When I search your store the deal isn't there, and eBay just tells me that the deal has ended...did I miss out?
@zephsnapp: Same here. I was about to buy one too... I tried searching the ebay # you provided.
@iamsuchatowel: Thank you
I'm having the same problem as some of the others. I didn't exactly NEED another laptop and so I spent most of the day on the fence about this, then I decided to go ahead with it once I got home and I can't find the relisting. :(
So, offer dead now? I've been looking for a 15" laptop to replace mine.
