@wootcompare: Its just not the same. But I agree with your cost saving methods. Also what about those build your own ones where you can buy an awesome classic looking stand up case add a comp and put all the games you want on it for like a grand.

I wonder how easy it is to hack and put other games on there

@drmurdoc: I hobby in arcade games-- this really isn't a good deal. It's better than some offers for the same unit, but it's certainly not the best.

@killjoy: Yeah I guess I was wrong with the $1000 statement, I found a case for like $400, but then you would need a control board, monitor, and computer. So I'm sure that would all be more than $1000.

@killjoy: http://www.dreamarcades.com/ is one reasonable/reputable place to buy pre-loaded arcade cabinets that look and operate well. They sell full kits, $1299 w/o computer, $1499 with the computer setup with emulator, etc. IIRC. There are tons of websites online to download free arcade ROMs these days, you can find ROM + Emulator bundles online as well with a quick search.

One of my coworkers builds controller boards, this is who he recommends going with if you're not totally savvy on how to put together the hardware and want a nice, professional looking cabinet with hundreds/thousands of games.

Hey, we actually have a MAME cabinet. We're looking to sell it. We're in Colorado if anyone's interested. about 5000 games on it and it's full-size with dragon theme....anyone? anyone?

I'd buy this if lobsters were somehow involved.

google MAME

buy an old crap computer or recycle an one if you have one and put MAME on there

get an old cheap monitor

get an arcade style game pad

build case if desired

much cheaper than $2,900.

I had an old computer on hand, picked up a monitor for $5 off of craigslist, and built my entire MAME cabinet for $500:

I would rather have a Netcity Style Cabinet to running my computer/game systems on. They are the way more stylish and good sit down height.

Anything with a Pacman/Ms.Pacman/Galaga combo that isn't licensed and made by Namco is illegal. Anyone making simple cabinets and control boards are using illegal copies and can be sued by Namco America.

Just a warning...if you want the real deal and want to make sure you can always get it repaired by Namco or authorized distributor then I recommend buying a Namco version

Nice MAME, Jason. I built mine from an old Rolex watch display cabinet, but it's not nearly as involved as yours.
You're 100% correct, as little poking around here and there and you can have a nice cab put together and save a couple grand.

I will never own a MAME cab or repro, but I can appreciate them when they are built with skill and care.

There is something intangible about a clean, period correct, fully functional and dedicated cabinet that tilts the scale in their favor every time, well at least for me.

I'm telling you, for another $600 you can get 35x more games AND a kegerator. www.drinkngame.com

sweet, where will i put it?

Prices on classic arcade games these days are retarded. I wish people would start caring less about them like they did in the mid 90s so I can get this game for $200 again. Go to hell, $3000 piece of wood for douchey hipsters that didn't like classic games until aweful music, beards, nerd glasses and bum hair were in style. Stop wearing our Chuck Taylors, too.

vote-for1vote-against

I wouldn't spend that much on 1 (or 2) games.

I'm planning on just setting up MAME on my video projector, and using a Hotrod controller.

Regardless of all the above...Galaga is still one of my favorite games, even when I have a PS3 to come home to. If I see a Galaga game I have to stop and play. Give me this and a good pinball game and I'm set for hours...yep, I'm old school. Don't get me started on Atari pinball, I can control that ball forever.

@shifty: $1,698.00 after shipping for the Arcade Kit (with Promo Code: dreambig)

It's not a bad deal at all..

After your 11,600th game, this becomes a discount.

@sf0109: you must be absolutely fun to party with.
