Always, always, always use the safety food holder with a Mandoline slicer. Trying to slice that last little bit of potato for baked potato chips (very good and easy to make) by using your hand leads to a few hours at the ER and a fingertip that no longer has any feeling in it.

Ha, I just bought a mandolin because I did the same thing with a sharp-ass potato peeler. Took off 30% of my left pointer finger. Nail, skin and everything underneath it. All my years in the kitchen and it was the first time I ever drew blood. And yeah, feels funny now. Shouldn't have been watching Futurama on my phone at the same time, I suppose.

I'm going to go ahead and forget about that incident now.
