Is this deal for a limited time?

@yaacov: Looks like they're just clearing out the USB 2.0 cases.

Having bought one of these before, I can assure you that they're overcharging, even at $6. They're very poorly made, feel rickety once assembled, and have no ventilation for a drive.

So if you wanna house an SSD, go for it, but no spinning disk should ever go in one of these cases unless it's for a quick cloning job.

I bought one of these when a laptop died and I just wanted to recover some files from the HDD. They are not good for any sort of regular use for an external HDD, but if you just need it to grab some files and don't intend to use it again, it's cheap and easy and cheap. Did i mention cheap?

I noticed the USB connector is a female usb port. Guess you have no options for the cable except you MUST the one that comes with it. -1. I wouldn't buy one of these...

I own many different brands of these and they should be treated as a infrequent use device. Generally I use them when I pull a HDD out of a bad laptop, so that I can just give the person their HDD and they can transfer the files to their new computer themselves.

Generally I can find these or similar enclosures on ebay for ~$3 when I buy multiples. And they are worth about that much.

@radi0j0hn: The description plainly says for Amazon Prime members. At this point though, who isn't?

@sporadic: $100/yr. and I'm already a Netflix subscriber? No, I'm not a member. That's a lot of money to spend to call it "free" shipping regardless. "No Extra Charge" shipping, maybe.

Seems like a pretty good deal as this is around £6.99 to £16.99 on Amazon.

I have one of these... the USB cord was defective, but after i swapped it out, it worked fine. Definitely made cheap, but it gets the job done.

@omnichad: Did they finally raise the price? Wow, I was going to cancel a $40/year haha..*

Now that they've started slowly picking off what qualifies for Prime, arbitrarily converting things from Prime to an "add on" item and taking away $3.99/1-day, etc. It's become a lot less appealing.

Of course, people try to justify it with streaming videos, Kindle books etc, but in practice I'd say 95% of people use it for shopping and shipping.

*(Looking into it, I've seen a TON of people talking publicly about how they'd be happy to pay even more than that.. Solid strategy.)
