Young Frankenstein - Blu-ray for $4.99 + free shipping
Determined to live down his family's reputation, Dr. Frederick Frankenstein (Wilder) insists on pronouncing his name "Fronckensteen" and denies interest in replicating his grandfather's experiments. But when he is lured by Frau Blucher (Leachman) to discover the tantalizingly titled journal "How I Did It" in his grandfather's castle, he cannot resist. With the help of voluptuous Inga (Garr), wall-eyed assistant Igor (Feldman), and a purloined brain, Frankenstein creates his monster (Boyle). Igor, however, stole the wrong brain, and the monster tears off into the countryside, encountering a little girl and a blind hermit (Hackman). Frankenstein finds the monster and trains him to do a little "Puttin' On the Ritz" soft-shoe, but the monster escapes again, this time seducing Frankenstein's uptight fiance Elizabeth (Kahn) with his, ahem, sweet mystery. His love life and experiment in shambles, Frankenstein finally finds a way to create the being he had planned.
Picked up the BD on my lunch hour at BB, it was the last one left. Note this weeks BB ad showed it on sale for $9.99(which looked like the regular price.....) anyway it was listed as being on sale for $4.99 so I snatched it up.
Oh for those complaining about BB only shipping to the store, lots of other stores(including W/M) does this, site to store is free but to your house incurs a slight shipping fee. I see nothing wrong with this, I mean for $4.99 it's hard to justify free shipping and shipping to the store is probably done through their regular channels and comes in with other stocking items.
Eyegore!
Froederick!
abbie something.
@lorracs:
Same here. I don't really understand the free shipping thing. It won't give me that option. Pick up only.
Love this movie. Got it from Frys when it was the same price. Jump on this deal,it's a classic.
Well, this is pretty darn frustrating. . . Best Buy has it, but the website won't allow me to sign on, or even put any items in my cart. I had to call customer service where she pointed out that this item isn't available for shipping, but that I could drive 45 miles to pick it up at the nearest store. She suggested that I call the store, ask them to ship it to my local store so I could pick it up there. My question is if they have to ship the damn thing, why can't they just ship it to me. This might be a symptom to the reason Best Buy is going under.
@jjeff: From experience Order it online and have it shipped to store. I have had issues with getting a coupe of my local Best Buy stores price matching online prices on the spot. They have told me I should have shipped to store. They always cave, but it usually takes an extra 15 minutes to check out and is a total pain.
@breaddrink: "That said, I think it's overall his best movie."
Wow thats a good recommendation! Tomorrow I'm going to see if BB has it on the shelf for $4.99(as I said before this weeks BB ad showed it $9.99) and if it isn't or they won't match their online price then I'll order it online. That is assuming they still have it for $4.99 online tomorrow.
@jjeff: It is good, but honestly goes on a little too long...One of Mel Brooks traits though I guess.
I think it's a watchable movie right up until they put the monster on stage, and then it feels a little like filler right until the very funny end scene.
That said, I think it's overall his best movie.
@craigthom: Ah, that's the original, then. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0072431/
'UTTIN' ON THE 'IIIIITZ.
The link in the previous comment says the movie has a 1.85:1 aspect ratio. That's just a tiny bit wider than 16:9 (1.78:1), so you should just see tiny black bars (or whatever color you've selected) at the top and bottom. It won't be dramatically letterboxed the way 2.35:1 movies are.
@funkadelic78: Thanks for verifying the aspect is original, I really like OAR.
Oh my local BB ad has this title listed for $9.99 this week........maybe I should just order it online instead of going to the store....
Funny thing is when I clicked the link and checked store availability it didn't say it would more than the $4.99.....
@nivram: "Let me out. Let me out of here. Get me the hell out of here. What's the matter with you people? I was joking! Don't you know a joke when you hear one? HA-HA-HA-HA. [bleep], get me out of here! Open this [bleep] door or I'll kick your rotten heads in! Mommy!"
Dr. Frederick Frankenstein: What knockers!
Inga: Oh, thank you doctor.
@jjeff: Definitely give the movie a shot again, it's a classic! Regarding the 16X9 Enhanced, that is Best Buy's way of saying it is widescreen format. No idea why they insist on not saying that simply.
Great price, I love Blazing Saddles.....should I get this one? I remember borrowing this movie years ago from a friend but my kids freaked out during a scene where they were panning over a shelf and all the sudden they came to a head in a bottle! We turned if off right away but they had nightmares for a week!They are older now so I wonder if I should try again?
I'm a little worried about this movie being "enhanced for 16x9 TVs"......I wouldn't want any cropping...
Great price and it looks like one can pick it up in-store, assuming they have it in stock. Oh anyone know how long this deal is on for?
