Um, Maverick pears? The Royal Riviera ones are typically the best but they are marked down as well, just a few more dollars. It's worth it.

Urmmmm. Sorry. It IS free shipping. The 'shipping' is deducted when you check out. I LOVE THESE PEARS! This is a really, really good deal!

@gmwhit, what is the difference between maverick and royal rivera? I ordered pears many times from there before, but never knew there was a diff, but also do not know what it was i ordered. I did get the peaches once and they were phenominal!

@ji11ian: I honestly do not know the difference. Have ordered/eaten/gifted the Royal many times. They are superb. Juicy. Lucious. Have some right now; gifted the same. Just ordered another 2 boxes as a gift. Again. Buy them. Either one; I don't think you'll be sorry.

I wanted to order but the Arrival Date states
Arrives by 02/05/2013
which is too late for me.

$2.77 a pear? are you nuts?

vote-for5vote-against

@deniva: Yes, perhaps I am. Do know that for years I bought pears from the grocery store. Hard, tasteless, simply awful. I stopped trying to even 'like' them. They were inedible. These, whatever the cost is 'per pear' are devine! Worth every cent to me.

@ji11ian: I actually know this one: The Maverick are the Royal Riviera rejects. Basically, it has the same flavor and consistency as a Royal Riviera, but has minor cosmetic defects - light sunburn, smaller than average, imperfect pear shape. They are by no means less delicious! If you're buying a box to impress someone, you get him the RRs, then save a few dollars by getting Mavericks for yourself!

FYI I was in a Harry and David store (Natick, MA) and everything including the pears was 50% off. I believe it was a temp holiday location. So, if you're near a mall that had a Harry & David store open up over the holidays, I would assume everything is 50% off or maybe even more.

@finzup: Yeah, the main location for H&D is in Oregon (Medford). I live in town with them and they were doing a 50% sale. Also were giving out 25-75% coupons during black friday.

And yes, their pears are amazing, all be it expensive.

The Riviera Pears are a life saver.. Perfect gift where you want to look thoughtful yet safe if you don't know what the taste of the recipient. Never failed to receive a big and appreciative "Thank you" from every person I gifted with them. They beat any pear in a commercial market hands down and not even top end grocers rarely have fruit that compares. Last place I saw was selling 5$ per pear for something close to comparable. They really are gourmet fruit. I highly recommend, dependable delivery and tracking and outstanding customer service.
