In for one! Super excited seeing my apt offers free cable service but no HD channels come equipped. Now I can watch my Sports in HD!!!
being someone that lives in Brooklyn, what kind of channels would I get if i hook it up to my Tv?
@icarususa: YOu should get lots. Try antennaweb.org or just gogle it. I'm waiting on a good outdoor deal. Just make sure you get an amplfier/booster and a moterized direction control is paramount it you get an outdoor unit.
As someone who owns one of these, I have to say it's a pain in the ass.
The base is narrow and the antenna cord goes in the BOTTOM of it (WTF?) so it's very, VERY hard to keep upright. The slightest brush from a cat or toddler will send it tumbling. It's also not small, and there's no way to conveniently put it in your living room with the large front fin on it.
I'd also like to point out that you don't need an "HDTV" labeled antenna to pick up HD channels. It's just a digital broadcast over an analog waveform, and the ol' rabbit ears still work if you're close enough to the signal. (http://www.dennysantennaservice.com/2029710.html) The amplifier in this model doesn't help much, we ended leaving ours unplugged and just use it as regular antenna.
Just ordered one from amazon for $2 more but it allowed me to get other stuff from amazon with free shipping this will be my 4th antenna all the previous ones I could not get channels and I finely was able to get a few with tin foil and cardboard but not very good hopefuly this will help. I live within 7.2 miles of the antenna's so I do not know why I have csuch problems but I hope this will help. Or I may be able to write reviews about antenna since I now own so many.
This is a fraud. These are obsolete now that half the stations are back on VHF. A UHF antenna is not an HDTV antenna, it's just an antenna and it's no better than a rabbit ears. Save your money and get a $1.99 rabbit ears if you live in the city, otherwise you still need a full size roof antenna to get good reception.
@stevec5000: Rabbit ears suck unless they are amplified like this one and then even the cheapo amplified ones don't do as good a job as a nice on like this or an old RCA one I have around.
I'll enthusiastically amplify (no pun intended) what @catbertthegreat has said. I actually own this exact antenna, and came to it only after trying three others. It works excellently and pulls in a great signal for my apartment, crystal clear HD over-the-air television - looks better than other people's compressed cable signals. However, @jyelle was correct in noting that the antenna is quite unstable and can be knocked over easily. All I can suggest is to be careful, but I haven't found anything that works as well as this one yet. I disagree with jyelle about the plug-in amplification - I notice a massive difference in my reception when the antenna is "powered" versus when it isn't.
I should also note that jyelle is correct when implying that you don't need to buy an "HD" or "HDTV" antenna to get high-def television over the air. An antenna is an antenna. It's the design of this one and its amplification that makes it especially effective.
@gwintner: The antenna only works better when it is powered because it is so tiny that it needs the amplification. If you got a full size antenna it would work better than this without being powered. A full size antenna might not fit too well inside the apartment thought.
This is actually $10 cheaper here:

I reconmend this one

Yes, it cost about twice as much. I bought and installed three of these (San Francisco Bay Area)and got about average 50+ channels. All were just placed indoors (single family home, not apartment) not located on a hill. It was selling at Costco for $69 but I have not seen them lately.
I think it's worth the time and money to try one out if you can conveniently return it if you are not satisfied.
@woottj: Funky lookin! So crazy that it just ... might ... work. How did you "mount" that or stand it up, though? Looks like it was intended to be attached to a roof, but the description nevertheless says "indoor/outdoor".
I highly recommend this antenna, I use it outdoors even though it's supposed to be indoor only. It's been on my roof for at least 4 years now and still works perfect. In the Atlanta area, I pull in all the local HD channels as well as some from other cities like Rome, GA.

$30.66 total shipped
@pluckyduck: Just think of all the channels you would be able to get with a "real" antenna!
@gwintner: the mast can be mounted on a round base that comes with the package.
@icarususa: I have this one and I live in Brooklyn.
I get
1 CBS
2 FOX (sometimes different shows)
3 NBC (1 regular, 1 sports, 1 surprisingly not bad NY local programming)
2 ABC (always the same show)
CW 11
3 PBS (1 kid, 1 spanish, 1 regular)
3 ION channels (Sometimes they play reruns of shows from the 90s/2000's that are all right)
2 NY channels that are pretty ok, lots of travel programming and cooking shows as well as some crafting shows I watch a lot of.
A ton of telemundo and televangelist in the upper channels.
The picture is clear (I'm in Ditmas Park) and all around pretty awesome for free TV.
@nelsonhall - I don't see how to add that to my shopping cart. Are they out of stock?
@gwintner It's possible that I don't need the amplification because I only live 1.5 miles from the broadcast tower :) I didn't factor that in.
I have this and regret buying it. Try this one: http://www.amazon.com/Terk-FDTV1A-Digital-Directional-Amplified/dp/B001UE8KUW - omni-directional means you don't lose your signal to them one channel you get when you accidentally tap the antennae.
Correction: I don't have this brand, but the Terk model that looks exactly like this.
so I just received mine and I get 3x as many channels I use to just get fox and mynetwork tv now I get abc, nbc, fox, my network etc... all I am missing is CBS and I get all this withoght even moving my antenna I just set it up 2 min ago and did my first scan. so if i work on it I might get all the channels.
