When buying these type of bulbs you need to do a litle research first.
Lasting 8 times longer is calculated based on 3 hours of use per day. Bulbs cannot be used in a closed fixture, like a globe fixture. Bulbs not used base side up will not produce the claimed wattage equivalent. Bulbs cannot be used in a dimmer fixture. Bulbs cannot be used in a wet environment. Bulbs cannot be used outside.
My personal experience with these bulbs is they will last only 2 to 2 1/2 times longer than regular bulbs (because of the amount of usage in my household), and out of the entire 3-bedroom house there are only two fixtures where they can be safely used.
Having compared these type 13-watt bulbs to a regular 60-watt soft-white bulb several times (using the naked eye) they have never been as bright as the regular bulb (the difference is very noticeable) to anyone in my household.
