this would look great sitting on my wooded lake lot. and that is actually a great deal, from the research ive done..

I was wondering how you get to the loft. I don't see any stairs included in the plans...maybe that's an add-on option.

vote-for3vote-against

I especially like the fact that the bedroom opens right out onto the huge porch. No specific reason why, I just really like that.

@mtm2: i was just looking at plans and it looks like it has a ladder going to loft..

vote-for1vote-against

@poopiedump: I see what you mean...it's either that or a towel bar. Climbing a ladder to get to the loft kinda precludes taking drinks or anything else up. Unless you have a rope with a bucket tied to it since it's right in the kitchen.

I love this design, and for 56k it would be a great summer home. I'll probably order one, if I can find land for about the same price near a lake :)

@mtm2: You are correct, it’s a ladder indeed. But no worries, if you don’t want to add a rope and bucket (which is an awesome idea!) these things are pretty customizable.

The question is: Is it mac-compatible?

vote-for1vote-against

Too bad the price doesn't include construction. The original ad should include the obligatory: *Some assembly required.

@mtm2 to carry drinks up the ladder, you have to get one of those tailgating hats with the cupholders and drinking tube.

If you can't build it yourself, I wonder how much something like this would cost to have built for you?

vote-for1vote-against

There seem to be no walls separating the living, sleeping, and kitchen spaces on the first floor. Is is just one big open area? Not much privacy.

@dazoneranger: From the website (for the creekstone outpost floorplan)

"When the cost of the labor for this service is added to the cost of the package, the combined cost is still held in the $50-$60 per square foot range."

They should have some real photos, not all renders.

I build houses just like this and they don't include prices for topsoil or a lawn so if you want a lawn like in the picture expect another 3 thousand dollars at least. and cheap isn't always good they use the cheapest material you they find to slap your house together..

vote-for0vote-against

40k for a log home made of cheap material? 1 windstorm and your done. Plus loghomes = HIGH maintenance

vote-for4vote-against

@eteyos: Log homes really aren't as much maintenance as most people think they are. Yes, you have to treat the wood and do some chinking every now and then... but if you do it right you don't have to do it nearly as often as you'd be led to believe. I'm quite happy with my log home. Then again, mine is hand cut hemlock in the appalachian style, not pine like most of these kits. My home is 22 years old and aside from the occasional checking that I've had to fill with backer rod and caulk, it's not too much trouble.

Rustic homes, especially true log homes, aren't for everyone. If they're done right, with quality materials, they'll last a lifetime and longer, though.

Ooo, I'll do you one better. I think I remember something about those gyroscope drink carriers that are supposedly impossible to spill drinks or something... I think it was once a deal here, but then again I could have just fell asleep with the Tv on and woke up an infomercial about it...

vote-for2vote-against

The only gyroscope dish that I have heard of is this...

It's a toddler bowl though, not a cup.

NOT A DEAL if it's the regular price.......

vote-for2vote-against

I don't think getting the drinks up to the loft would be the problem. It's realizing after a few (too many) the bathroom is down the ladder.

Personally, I think I could hit a bucket sitting on the lower floor, but the wife might not find that too amusing.

small house but to be honest its all you really need, i would live in this thing if i had an extra 40k
