Seriously, no comments? Twenty years ago, the Bill Clinton jokes would be flying left and right.

Actually this is not that great of an idea. If you place bananas with apples there is a gas that apples give off that makes bananas ripen MUCH faster. You have to keep these two products seperate or your bananas will spoil very quickly.
After years of throwing out spoiled fruit, someone pointed that out to me and now bananas last MUCH longer.
It is a very good way to get green bananas to quickly ripen.

@tbundick: I think most of us here did not care for things like this when they happened, and the rest just moved on.

Most fruits produce ethylene as they ripen, not just apples. This is the gas you are talking about. Bananas also produce it. A lot of people say that putting an apple in a bag with a banana is a good way to make it ripen quicker, but I'm not sure how much hanging a banana over a bowl of apples would affect ripening.

In for 1. Right now I have bananas all over the place. It will be good to have a central hub onto which I can dangle my elongated, ripening berries!!!

Wow. An actual banana hammock.

Great for hanging headphones on!

@rlp518: Technically the bananas aren't in the hammock.

@tbundick: That sure is a fruit bowl alright.

@tracylou32: Hmm. I wonder if they've got one of these for apples and avocados. I'd love to have the avocados ripen more quickly.

@lisaviolet: Just put them in a brown paper bag with an apple or tomato or something. The same thing happens.

I have one of these guys. I wouldnt say that the bananas ripen faster than normal with apples in the bowl part. Then again, I usually go through them faster than it takes for them to get too ripe. What I do like is that it hangs the bananas from the splitting point, so they dont get bruised sitting on the counter.

@mortar235: Technically, I wasn't speaking technically, Einstein.
