From the product description: Run time = 196 minutes. But if I select "V the complete series" from that product page, I get another V listing with a run time of 897 minutes for $13.99. Other than wide screen presentation, is there a reason not to purchase the latter over the former?

Back in the 80s, stations ran mini-series that were usually 2 night events - 2 hours each. That's how V started. Don't miss the first mini-series. It's a doosie. After that was so popular, they did a 2nd mini-series. Following that, they did a traditional TV season series.

Does that make sense.

If I had to purchase only one, I would go with the original mini-series. The one this deal links to.

The 897 minute collection is only the weekly TV series which ran after the miniseries. It does not include either V or V: The Final Battle, the two original miniseries presentations. (Much to my chagrin; I was hoping to free up some shelf space.)

If you're going to grab one, get this. The original four-hour miniseries is quality, and definitely worth getting at this price.

The original two miniseries were much better written and produced than the later TV Series.
