there is nothing tactical about this, it's just a fancy flashlight
Da-yam, a $90 flashlight. But it's pretty cool sounding...
@gnarf: It's black, dude. I don't think it gets much more tactical than that.
@drchops: Real tactical flashlights are rail mountable, or conform to one of many other standards for mountability and use. This is just a fancy flashlight, not "tactical" at all.
@klintor: The great, all-knowing Wikipedia allows for a handheld variety, and even implies that the classic Mag Light is one:
This was originally designed to use in law enforcement, hence the "tactical" application. i agree, it might not be the correct term to use. Either way, it is designed to be similar in size to a large mag light, and the camera function works with the light on or off. Great idea for law enforcement. I don;t think they sold well, though. They were over 2k when they were new several years ago. When you consider what you are getting for under a 100 bucks it is a pretty good deal, but one item i don't think most people actually need.
This thing was way more, when it first came out.
Genuinely considering one of these. I have to ask, though, how well it would hold up as an improvised baton? It would be nice to have video evidence that I "reasonably believe [I am] in danger of death or great physical harm." Also, do you think it would be too heavy / awkward for a "Modified FBI Hold?" ( See http://pdxtac.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/handgun-flashlight-modified-fbi-hold1.jpg )
I like the idea of getting people's annoyed expressions on video when you shine your flashlight in their eyes.
Bought one of these recently and was very impressed with the package! This unit comes in a case similar to a gun case, has a car and home charger, software to download videos, and is bright as hell! The IR part works pretty decently in a completely dark enviroment. I was just showing this to one of my police buddies and forwarded him the link to this sale, I think as a defense weapon and a tool on the road this thing would be awesome.....
Don't all flashlights come with night vision?
the surefire on my colt m-4 is tactical flashlight, this is a fun novelty
a self-defense tool, and a good way to capture nightlife of all kinds on video
I bought one of these a few weeks ago from Woot. It was $99.99 back then. I must say it comes in a nice case. It is a massive flashlight. The package weight was over 12 lbs. It is well built and solid. It could do some extensive damage as a weapon.
Verily I say 85,000 candles power is enough to spot a one cubit high hobbit at a furlong's separation.
I predict that in 2012 Anno Domini only the weakest, most brain addled serf will be measuring hobbits in cubits (and flash-lights in candlepower).
@fenriq: So true, the first thing I do when I get a new flashlight is put the batteries in and then shine it in my wife's face. She always yells "Stop it, you're an idiot!". Heck, we don't need a flashlight to prove that. I get a good idea how many lumens the flashlight produces by how loud she yells.
calling all /craigslistcreepers
@whitcwa: "I predict that in 2012 Anno Domini only the weakest, most brain addled serf will be measuring hobbits in cubits (and flash-lights in candlepower)."
Are those hobbit-cubits or human-cubits?
Never mind, I can't hold a candle to that remark.
Aside from the comments here, I can't seem to find reviews on this product. Yeah, I found a reward from this company or that union, etc but none from real people that don't stand to gain political and financial benefit. I see the post from the LE. As an LE, would you recommend purchase?
@mcavey3: For less than a hundred, I would get one see what it is all about, and if it is garbage, sell it for the hundred you got in it. I am sure someone would probably buy this off of you on Craigslist.
Although it does appear to have way too many buttons to be fumbling with during the "moment" of truth.
@mikeknight01: dead battery flashlights come with 20/20 hindvision.
Finally, something I can use my coupon from jumbowoot on.
I got mine for under 75.00 ;-)
@bugzappers2112: I just want to find the on/off button when that happens. Just got a powerful Coast flashlight w/ strobe. I think the downside to it is it take D batts. Kind of digging the car charger function like my old maglite.
This was at CES a few years ago. It was being promoted by some foreign company and the sign I saw as I zoomed by said "DVR with Flashlight." I was so confused the entire weekend.
Why would someone want a flashlight on their TiVo?
It bothered me so much I tracked down the booth on the last day. This makes much more sense than what I initially imagined.
first time to see such expensive flashlight!but the function is so great!
I wish it had a laser setting
Just got mine in, opened it up, shipping weight is around 11 lbs, only played with it a little, looks cool, but it's huge, like a 6-D-Cell Maglite with the camera on the front end, if all else fails it can be used as a club....
