Sob, Sob.... I really miss this show.

I went to DragonCon last month, A lot of support for the show. If you have never seen this, watch / get Firefly first.

I figure I have a curse. If it is Sci-Fi and I like it, it is the kiss of cancelation death. Journeyman, Defying Gravity etc RIP.

I'm a bit confused here.

Firefly - The Complete Series starts with Serenity part 1 and part 2. But according to what I read over at Amazon, this "2 part pilot" was released after the series completed, and "The Train Job" was the real pilot FOX went with.

Question is ... Is the Serenity part 1 & 2, the same as Serenity the movie? or do you need to get both "Firefly - the complete series" AND "Serenity - the movie" to have a truly complete set?

It's confusing with them both called Serenity.

TL;DR: Is Serenity (the movie) included in Firefly (the complete series).

@balls2thewall: Serenity (2005) is a standalone feature film. However there was an episode in the series called Serenity (2002), which depending where and how you first saw the series, may have been the first or last episode you saw in the only season. So yeah, you'd need both Firefly the series and Serenity the film to get the complete experience. Totally worth it.

@mgherter: Thanks. I only saw a few of the original series (which was quite awhile ago), but the reviews are great and I want the best experience when watching it all.

That said, what's the best order to watch? The movie first, then the series, or vice-a-versa?

@balls2thewall: The series first, then the movie.

@balls2thewall: From what I understand the series should be watched first, then the movie. I'm working on it myself actually right now.

@baddoght: I didn't know anyone else watched Defying Gravity. Wasn't near as good as Firefly, but I enjoyed it.

@sorensok: Agreed, Defying Gravity not as good as Firefly. I liked it as it reminded me of the hey day of NASA and the space program in general. I would like to have known more about the artifact. None the less died before its time (same with Rome, Dead Like Me, Six Feet Under, Carnavile).

I actually watched the movie first, without knowing it had anything to do with Firefly (which I wasn't able to get into, when it came on Fox, for some reason), and I still liked it. Then, a few years later, I bought Firefly, because I kept hearing it was so awesome, finally watching it a long time after buying it, and THEN I saw Serenity again, and it was much better than the first time, because it made so much more sense. This will probably go down in history as the best show ever to get canceled in its infancy. Bastards.

If you miss Firefly and need a Joss Whedon fix, watch Dollhouse. It's sci-fi that's every bit as interesting as Firefly (though you can't really match Firefly's character development), and it's on Netflix.

@bhspitmonkey: I always wondered if Dollhouse was any good. I'll have to give it a try.
