i'm not really a fan of GoDaddy (mostly because of their checkout process which tries to confuse you into spending ALOT of money), but for this price, you can afford to really read everything in the checkout process lol

vote-for4vote-against

It's for new customers only.

Free shipping? I didn't know anyone shipped domain names!

vote-for5vote-against

Concerning this "deal" it is a promotion GoDaddy runs almost every month. No rush to use.
That said -
@valuepal :
Not sure where you came up with the information in your comment, but from my experience you are completely wrong!
I've had 30 domain names through GoDaddy for about a decade and completely satisfied with their service, et al .
You don't know much about domain registry because if GoDaddy's security was bad ICANN would suspend or pull their accreditation, especially after the RegisterFly fiasco.
Nothing wrong with Network Solutions, other than they STILL over charge for their service. I registered my first domain names through them 18 years ago, because they were basically the ONLY game in town. They were, are, a ripoff.

Wow this is great...cause I always hate paying shipping when I buy a domain name.

vote-for6vote-against

@kecker: i fully support everyone clicking the "free shipping" option, even if shipping isn't an issue. that way, without looking into the deal, you can tell if the posted price is all you will pay. but thanks for the sarcasm :)

I must just be blind, because I'm at the credit card payment screen, and haven't seen the option to put in any coupon codes or anything, and I'm not entering jack monkey squat without that coupon code first.

Scratch that. Found it. Had to use a microscope though.

vote-for1vote-against

if you buy a domain with godaddy, can you host the website/transfer the domain somewhere else?

vote-for2vote-against

@mistypaw

I have about 6 domains registered through GoDaddy... All of them are hosted on Fatcow or other hosts.... all you have to do is change your nameservers, and you're good to go!

@mistypaw: http://nodaddy.com/#horror

I think that might answer your question.

I'm not sure why GD is still around. It's one of the shadiest businesses I've ever seen. Sure most people won't run across problems with GD, but that doesn't mean that GD should act on or even over the boundaries of ethics for the minority of people that will have a problem.

They put customers in catch-22 situations and will shutdown or take back over a site that gets a minor complaint without ever doing any investigation or even talking to the customer. Then there's the fact that there servers were getting hacked less than a year ago. GD has been pretty large for a while now, so why aren't their security systems up to date? But the best part about you getting compromised by their inept security: They don't think it's their problem.

GD is like the the pathetic gangster that would rather shoot a customer in the back than admit to a problem.

People should avoid GD as one avoids an STD.

I recently switched from GoDaddy for mostly ethical reasons. GoDaddy has a number questionable practices that, while they never directly affected me, are detestable nonetheless. I finally bit the bullet and paid $3 more a month for hosting/peace-of-mind.

Examples:
- If you use GoDaddy to search for a domain name, but don't buy it at that time, GoDaddy will frequently purchase the domain name in order to sell it back to you at an increased price.
- They'll suspend accounts for seemingly arbitrary reasons, requiring you to pay fines to get your domain back, effectively holding your domain for ransom

Basically, they frequently charge ridiculously low rates for domains and hosting, which means they have to make up for it with poor customer service and fees. How else are they going to sponsor Danika Patrick and pay for commercials to air during the Superbowl?

HEEELP!!!?? I'm at the checkout screen like everyones talking about, but i CANNOT FIND THE COUPON CODE BOX that everyone says is "VERY HARD TO FIND and AT THE BOTTOM BUT YOU NEED A MAGNIFYING GLASS" heeeeeellllp????!

vote-for1vote-against

The coupon code box is on the right side of the screen, when reviewing your cart. It says "Order Summary" and under it is a link that says "Enter Promo Code or Source Code" and that is where you enter it!

vote-for1vote-against

Ok, Ive got an Order Summary box with sub-total etc in it at the bottom right...but the ONLY thing BELOW that is 'Sign up for special offers', a blank box, and 'Join our community forums' I'm a bit hesitant to only have the code (PRESIDENT) typed in the box I described. I dont see what you described at ALL!?? :-(

Free shipping is where it's at

I think you need to be in your shopping cart, not in the checkout process.

I have over 200 domain names registered with, and 30+ sites hosted by GoDaddy.com, and have been with them since their start in '97:

#1 - Their customer support is top notch.
#2 - I've never experienced downtime with them.
#3 - The longest I've had to wait to get a hosting error fixed is 2 days - and it was PURELY & 100% my F-up. Not only did they fix it, they sent in one of THEIR web programmers and fixed code that I didn't even know was wrong - FOR FREE.

I can't say that they are a perfect company, but no company is [OK, maybe except for Zappos]. There are going to be complaints. Someone above says "They'll suspend accounts for seemingly arbitrary reasons, requiring you to pay fines to get your domain back, effectively holding your domain for ransom." That is a wide-reaching statement without back-up or support of that claim. On the flip-side, I was in Europe for 4 months and COMPLETELY forgot about renewing some domains. They not only ran them, but wiped the "late" fees.

vote-for1vote-against

GOT IT! (fiiiiinally!) The problem WAS...I was on the FINAL page, the coupon code box thingy was on the PREVIOUS page! Thanks to all who helped me! ALSO...as for Godaddy's ethics; they definitely push a bit too hard for the inadvertant over-purchase BUT those of us equipped with adequate brains can easily avoid their "unappreciated advances" and simply enjoy their simple to use website creation services. ;-)

vote-for1vote-against

Does anyone know how long this code will be good for? Any expiration date???

vote-for1vote-against

GoDaddy is the place to go to register domains. I have registered hundreds of domains with them, without any problems whatsoever.

My guess is the reviews at NoDaddy are by competitors that can't match the price or service. Every webmaster I know uses Godaddy.

The horror stories are from people to lazy to keep track of renewal times respond to renewal emails. I get no less than 5 emails in the weeks leading up to renewal time.
