This is not the normal magnesium bar and flint thing they sell. It is something called a metal match which is a cross between a flint and a cigarette lighter. I have one and it's not bad, but not the same as the usual survival tool.

This thing requires lighter fluid... given the size can someone explain why I wouldn't just keep a lighter with me?

@zmannon: it's more flammable oil rather than normal butane. butane wants very much to escape your BIC, where as oil is super happy with where it at and will probably be there when you want it.

also, you could refill this thing with just about any liquid at room temp fuel, for as long as the flint lasts, where as a BIC is 'disposable'.
