My own comments on Amazon:
We've been battling ants for two years. I've fought ants all the way into November, and then starting again in February. They were so bad this year that I swear if you pulled the siding off of our house, it would have been black and writhing with ants.

I used boric acid, Raid, ant traps, even an exterminator ... Just about the time I'd think I had them licked, we'd be inundated again.

For example, I was doing laundry. I'd just thrown the last load in - a load of throw rugs. Not an ant in sight. When I came back downstairs less than an hour later, I discovered a black line going to and a black line going from a small piece of dog food that must have fallen off one of the throw rugs.

I'd come home and see a stream of them climbing up the side of the house and underneath the siding.

My son was visiting one day and I was telling him about my battle. He mentioned Grant's Ants. I thought, "Why not!? I've tried everything else!"

I bought three 10-packs. We placed stakes around the entire perimeter of the house. My daughter would go outside and check on them every day or so and replace the ones that were empty. The ants streamed in to take the bait.

Withing a week ... a WEEK! ... there was only the occasional ant coming into the house. Within two weeks, we weren't seeing any inside the house anymore. Within three weeks, we didn't see them outside anymore.

We'll be keeping fresh stakes around our house all summer long. Grant's Ants is nothing short of miraculous!!

** Update: I wrote the above review over a year ago. One year later I'm more of a believer in Grant's Ants than ever.

After the miracle of eliminating ant's in our home last summer, we now put out new stakes about every three months. We discovered that if we didn't replace the stakes, keeping a year-round Grant's Ants barrier in place, the ants would start sneaking back in.

It's just so simple. If we keep fresh stakes outside around the perimeter of our house, we don't have ants inside the house. I LOVE GRANT'S ANTS!!

While I did buy 5 packs, I only paid $6.46 each SHIPPED from here:

I paid $5.36 per pack. Now if I can just find something to kill the 4500 ladybugs that have taken over my house...I hoped she learned her lesson about opening my "Woot" mail.

Maybe it is due to my lack of sleep, but when I first read the title, I saw Giant Ant Steaks, I was really interested in reading about it, untill I realized the mistake.

@allenrb2: Me too, it made me think of the movie "Them" and that scary noise :)

@pufferfishy: I ordered 5 packs, also. Keeping the perimeter safe during the summer requires due diligence and a lot of fresh Grants Ants stakes!

WARNING: DO NOT DO THIS IF YOU HAVE TODDLERS IN THE HOUSE!
I also tuck a stake into the corners of the two kitchen windows, a particularly favorite entry spot. As well as a few other hidden spots inside the house where they're known to break through.

Note: shipping NOT included, which adds $3.96 for 1, $4.33 for 2, $4.71 for 3...

I'd pay 10x this much for something equally effective at getting rid of box elder bugs. They are the bane of my existence.

@flamingonut: Use the link @pufferfishy gave. Better price. Truly, I'd pay pretty much whatever these things cost. Yes, they're that good.

@brossow: Does anyone out here in the wonderful world of Woot deals have a suggestion (short of burning the house down) on how to be rid of the box elder or japanese beetles?

vote-for3vote-against

@samo22: Post this as a question on Ask the Wooters.

You've all convinced me--they better work !! I , too ordered from the other link and saved a bundle. Thanks for the tips.

I just ordered some with the other link, the web site said limited quantity so act fast.

@debbiedunlap: This was an excellent suggestion, and the question is now over there.

I might have made a slightly different title, since the main question was originally about Box Elder bugs.

the other link is out of stock ):

we have used the Terro liquid and it works very well, but we have to do it every year. Would have liked to have gotten these.....

I'm going to order some of these - we have a LOT of bark dust in our yard & fight the carpenter ants every year.
HOWEVER, I stumbled upon something I think is helping - I have "Pergo/laminate" floor in my kitchen (where the ants seem to show up) and to keep from having detergent build-up and not damage the laminate I started using a weak water/white vinegar solution in a spray bottle and a Swiffer pad to clean the flood. It works great and the floors don't show build-up or look streaky (like laminate sometimes can) AND it seems to repel the ants! We haven't had nearly as many since we've been using the vinegar solution to clean the floor. Don't worry about the odor - once it dries your house no longer smells like a salad.
