Grrr... I kicked myself when I didn't pick one up last time it was offered.

Then I read ASUS is coming out with Tegra3 tablet for $245 NEW shortly.... so I'm kinda on the fence now....

I've read this 10.1 tab is beautiful, but even the interface struggles a bit due to the Tegra2 per many reviews

I personally don't like the proprietary interface for charging, how SLOW it charges (6+ hours from 0%), and the lack of standard connectors like USB or HDMI (mini/micro).

sigh.... there's always something better coming I know... if this were $199 I'd buy it right away.

Didn't you guys do the same writeup for this tablet before? Seriously, deja vu. Or did I wake up in a universe wherein this writeup hadn't been...written up yet?

If you get this, you MUST get this keyboard/dock for it!

Note: I have nothing to do with this, I just found it when price checking the TAB and just had to share :)

@souka: Great find and I happen to have a $5 coupon. But since it doesn't make coffee I'd have to pass.

vote-for13vote-against

@souka: $99,999 for a keyboard dock? This isn't an iPad!

How does the 10" Android tablet at $300 compare to the Kindle Fire 7" at $200? If you didn't have any kind of tablet or smart phone and had the money to spend, which would you buy?

vote-for4vote-against

@souka: Asus and Google are reportedly teaming on that tablet, but nothing official has been announced yet. If rumors are to be believed, it'll be a 7-inch, Tegra 3 tablet retailing for less than $200... but it's also supposedly been delayed until July.

I'm seeing Samsung's Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus (which has better internals than the Tab 10.1; Exynos 4210 vs. Tegra 2) selling for $299 at some stores, and it appears to be a pretty kick-ass piece of equipment. Might be worth checking out.

I had been on the fence picking out a 10inch tablet and bit on this a couple of weeks ago when woot had them. I'm really happy with the Galaxy tab, as it fits my needs perfectly at a pricepoint I was comfortable with. Although the new Tegra 3 tabs are out there, the $200 difference (between this and the Asus Prime) wasn't worth it IMO. What the Galaxy tab lacks in ports, it makes up with in its vibrant screen. If you compare this side-by-side to an asus or acer tablet, the screen and weight will definitely pop out at you. I do wish it had a built-in Micro-SD slot, the adapter that came with mine is a bit clunky and a microslot would not have increased the tab's size.

For those who asked - the Kindle Fire and Nook Tablet's are also really good for the price, but you will need to do some tweeking to get the most out of them. I had a nook color with CM7 on it for the longest time, but eventually wanted a larger screen. You really need to decide between 7 and 10, not $100.

vote-for2vote-against

@zuberman: I have both, and love both. I also have an Ipad. But if I were choosing between the two (three), I would definitely pick the Kindle Fire. Its value, size, and easy operation make it the one I use the most. Hands down, If I'm walking out the door and taking a tablet with me, it's probably the Fire. Hope that helps.

vote-for6vote-against

@zuberman: the fire is amazon using an old stripped down version of android. closed off to the google world and very much geared towards you spending your money at amazon. it is also a very decent tablet for the money.

the 10.1, which i got in a previous woot for $320... is worth every penny. you have google, which gives you access to google maps and navigation (you would need to load directions while connected to wifi and then take off), and then everything else google has to offer. you also get a bigger tablet with a much better screen. there is much more but that would take too long.

hands down the 10.1 is $100 better than the fire. another thing you need to look at before you decide though.... is the accessories and dongles. decide what you want a tablet for. the 10.1 is capable of doing a lot more than the fire and looks better while doing it. but again.. the fire is more portable.

@souka: Wow. I'll sell you mine for 1/10 of that price!
I paid $70 for mine.

I also picked this up a few weeks ago, and have no complaints... except I just saw brand new 10.1s at Sam's Club for $349. I would have liked to purchased a new one for $50 more, but it wouldn't have come with the SD card adapter. My friend has an iPad2, and was impressed. As for picking between Fire or Galaxy Tab, I guess it depends on what you are using the tablet for? If you're just reading books, and occasional web surfing or other stuff, get the Fire. If you predominately browse the web, download a bunch of apps, or will let your kids play around on your tablet, then I'd get the Galaxy Tab 10.1.

vote-for3vote-against

I just bought this Tab a few weeks ago on woot. I also was debating waiting on the new Google tablet coming out, but it still seems like all the affordable tablets are going to be 7" only. I definitely wanted a 10", so I think this Galaxy Tab was the best deal. It's lighter than my friends iPad, and has a better screen. Plus you can do so much more tweaking with Android. Overall I'm very happy with it so far.

No SD card slot on this one, stuck at 16Gb, think I will pass.

@voovfeegbean: (that's me!) --- this is a review from 8/11. This looks to be a newer review and this tab is now #4!

I bought one of these in a past WOOT.....Has anybody put Ice Cream sandwich on one of these yet.....

I have not seen a Samsung package for that upgrade which they promised?

Any info....Thanks.....

vote-for2vote-against

I bought this the first time Woot offered it back in November without the SD adaptor. We also have an i-pad 2. In my opinion, I think the Tab 10.1 has better screen resolution than the i- pad 2. For the money, I think this is a much better deal. I really recommend this to anyone who wants to take the leap to a very good tablet but feels the i-pad is a little too expensive.

@nuggy: I love Samsung devices, but have learned that they will rarely deliver on updates. Hate to say it, but it is true.

vote-for3vote-against

I love this device, as for lack of ports, while i agree, there are adapters out there. For one, if you're used to a samsung platform on your phone, this matches up to it perfectly. Also, the display is amazing. Hubby paid much more for mine around Christmas time, but at this price, am planning to pick one up for my son as an "off to high school" gift.

@voovfeegbean: Thanks for the good updated info from March 19, 2012 by CNET about best rated tablet computers.

@jha1223: Updates are to improve or fix things that need improvement. Apple likes to fix things that aren't broken. That's why all of the updates. It seems that people think you need updates to keep it new and fresh. Not at all true.

@ringo4422: My apologies. I wasn't clear. We got the news that we would be getting Gingerbread for Fascinate in December just two weeks before ICS 4.0.3 was announced by Google. That meas we were two full versions behind what was being released. The Captivate got Gingerbread in January. If you don't have their absolute newest phone/device, don't be surprised if you don't get new versions of Android or get them very late.

vote-for4vote-against

Worrying about Ice Cream Sandwich is a dead end. Only 3% of Android devices have it, so developers are still going to focus on Gingerbread and Honeycomb. And Jelly Bean has already been announced for this fall, so there's little incentive for manufacturers or developers to care about ICS.

Motorola updated the Xoom to ICS a while back and it's less stable than Gingerbread. Mail particularly crashes more than it used to, but Browser also frequently hangs or crashes. I'd go back to Honeycomb if I could.

vote-for1vote-against

This Tranformer is a better tablet for the same price. Asus already has an update to ICS out.It also can take an micro-sd acrd for more memory. IPS screen, optional keyboard dock has built in battery, mouse touch pad and can close like a clamshell to make it like a little netbook. I have one of these and love it. The Samsung is not bad either, I just think the Asus has more to offer.

I had the 10.1 a few months back but didn't like it because of the size. It just seemed too big and cumbersome for my hands. Personally I find that the 8.9 is a perfect medium between the 7.0 tablets(too small) and the 10.1 tablets. If Woot would have one for around 200... maybe even 250, I would buy one in a heart beat.

Looks like a good deal to me so I got one. how much better is this better than my Viewsonic GTablet?

I really hate the Apple Toadies that write these ads. Sad fools.

@souka: Just got back from the AT&T store and I will concur that the keyboard is be-yoooo-tiful. It took me awhile to wade through all the apple garbage but once I found it I was awestruck. Simply stunning.

@hopec12: Has a better screen? What are you basing this off of? This thing's resolution is 1280 x 800, while the iPad is 2048 x 1536. BIG difference.

Just don't want people to be lead astray by faulty information.

@metanoia29: Heya Apple tool.... hoperc12's comment is in regard to the comparable iPad2, not the "2012 iPad"
